We're seeking a Director, Information Technology (IT) to lead, strengthen, and evolve our technology infrastructure across PDG's Support Office and national network of dental clinics. Based in Calgary, this hands-on leadership role blends strategic vision with practical execution, ensuring our systems, hardware, and networks operate securely, efficiently, and in alignment with our growth objectives.
Reporting to the EVP, People & Clinic Support, the Director will serve as PDG's key technology leader -- managing IT operations, overseeing vendors, and driving initiatives that enhance security, performance, and user experience. As our organization continues to expand, this role will evolve to include leadership of an internal IT team while continuing to shape PDG's digital transformation journey.
What You'll Do
IT Strategy & Leadership
Develop and implement PDG's IT roadmap, ensuring technology supports operational excellence and future growth.
Partner with the executive team to align IT initiatives with business priorities.
Evaluate existing infrastructure and recommend system upgrades, integrations, and modernization opportunities.
Establish IT governance, policies, and documentation to ensure consistency and accountability.
Lead PDG's cybersecurity and data protection strategy to maintain trust and compliance across the organization.
Infrastructure & Systems Management
Oversee the design, development, integration, and maintenance of cloud-based and on-site infrastructure.
Manage all networks, servers, and systems across Support Office and clinics.
Ensure reliable operation of business-critical platforms such as HRIS, finance tools, communications software, and PMS systems.
Maintain and enhance connectivity, security, and performance across all clinic locations.
Develop and manage backup, recovery, and business continuity protocols to safeguard operations.
Vendor & Contractor Management
Serve as the primary contact for external IT service providers, managed service partners, and software vendors.
Coordinate outsourced technical support and ensure timely issue resolution for clinics and corporate teams.
Negotiate and manage IT contracts, renewals, and procurement processes to optimize service quality and cost.
Oversee vendor performance, ensuring adherence to SLAs and compliance with PDG standards.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies that protect patient and organizational data.
Ensure compliance with privacy and data protection laws, including PIPEDA, PHIPA, and provincial regulations.
Conduct risk assessments, security audits, and penetration testing to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
Oversee SharePoint, user permissions, encryption, and endpoint protection organization-wide.
Lead incident response planning and management in the event of a breach or data loss.
Clinic-Level IT Coordination
Act as the point of contact for clinic IT needs, coordinating with vendors or providing hands-on support.
Standardize clinic IT setup processes, ensuring consistency in hardware, software, and network configurations.
Support clinic integrations, relocations, and new openings with timely infrastructure setup and testing.
Deliver user support and training to clinic leaders on systems and security best practices.
Project Management & Implementation
Lead IT-related projects including software implementations, system migrations, and network upgrades.
Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, HR, and Marketing to ensure seamless technology integration.
Define project scopes, timelines, and deliverables, and communicate progress to key stakeholders.
Monitor project performance to ensure completion within scope, budget, and deadlines.
What You Bring
Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Bachelor's degree required).
15+ years of progressive IT experience, including infrastructure management, system integrations, and vendor coordination.
Proven experience supporting multi-site environments, ideally within healthcare, dental, or service-based industries.
Strong technical knowledge across cloud systems (Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS), networking, cybersecurity, and endpoint management.
Hands-on expertise implementing and supporting Practice Management Systems (e.g., Dentrix, Tracker, or similar).
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills -- able to translate complex technical issues into actionable solutions.
Experience managing IT budgets, asset lifecycles, and vendor negotiations.
Ability to work both strategically and tactically with a customer-service mindset.
Willingness to travel occasionally to clinics for setup, integration, and support.
