Position Summary:

Working with the Executive Director, Human Resources - West, this position is responsible for strategic partnering with the Site Operations Team to provide guidance and support on all Human Resources related matters including workforce planning, labour relations, team member relations, engagement, retention, performance management, DEIB, change management, health & safety, and site training needs.

The Human Resources director is an integral part of the leadership team and leads the implementation of corporate HR initiatives at site level, coordinates with local stakeholders, ensures alignment with corporate objectives and policies, as well as compliance with gaming related regulatory requirements. Leading a team of HR professionals, the Human Resources director fosters a high performing team by enabling HR Team Members to contribute to their fullest and creates a working environment where Team Members feel valued, safe, and included.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provides leadership, direction and mentoring to the Human Resource department at the site level; develops performance objectives and delivers performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Develops annual HR budget in addition to monitoring, updating, and reporting any budget variances
  • Provides HR support to site managers and team members; provides guidance on conflict resolution, performance management, career development and succession planning
  • Fosters effective and collaborative relations with union representatives; anticipates and proactively resolves potential labour issues
  • Identifies internal and external employment labour market trends; recommends improvements, efficiencies, and internal training opportunities.
  • Oversees programs such as, orientation & onboarding, attendance management, health & safety, and performance management at site level.
  • Works collaboratively on HR strategic plans and aligns site operations with corporate objectives
  • Acts as a resource and champion for change management initiatives to effectively embed change in the workplace.
  • Conducts or assists in confidential workplace investigations
  • Oversees leave management processes at the site level, including both occupational and non-occupational return to work planning
  • Liaises and communicates effectively with all appropriate operational departments
  • Develops and cultivates strong working relationships with all stakeholders: unions, operations leaders, team members, vendors, and regulators
  • Ensures site compliance with regularity requirements, licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations
  • Performs other duties as required.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources Management or in a related field (Diploma/Degree)
  • A minimum of 5-7 years in a HR Manager position.
  • CHRP designation is considered an asset.
  • Ability to exceed internal and external guest expectations through leading by example and by providing timely, effective, and service oriented support and service to operation managers.
  • A track-record of effective human resources service delivery to several departments with competing needs and providing sound advice on sensitive matters.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; mediation and conflict management/resolution experience is required.
  • Superior ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, identify key information, interpret data, determine implications, provide recommendations, and effectively resolve issues
  • Computer literacy in all applications of MS Office and HRIS experience required.
  • Strong Collaboration skills and the ability to effectively build rapport in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule, when necessary, in the event of extenuating business needs
  • Serving It Right Certification or the ability to achieve a Serving It Right Certification
  • The ability to successfully obtain regulatory registration through the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch
