The opportunity & how you will create impact

Reporting to the Director, AI Strategy & Initiatives, the Director, Generative AI Program Delivery is a consultant-minded professional who can deliver on our global Generative AI priorities, obsess about customers, and is excited to drive a highly visible, strategic transformation for our business. As a key member of the Global Marketing Strategy & Transformation team, the desired candidate will lead and implement Manulife\xe2\x80\x99s multi-year Generative AI program, a major transformation program that aims to set up our organization to gain the value promised from this capability, guided by a responsible framework, with the goal of delivering significant business benefits.

The role will work with Global and Segment Gen AI Working Groups, Segment Advanced Analytics Leads, our Chief Data Scientist, and the Global Transformation Portfolio team to operationalize practical frameworks and guardrails that enable our businesses measure value, identify unique risks, anticipate questions and obstacles, and align with evolving regulatory environment, including finding opportunities to enable the organization to create business value through generative AI. This includes taking projects from initiation through final implementation, assembling a matrixed project team, including identification and securing of resources needed, assigning responsibilities, directly collaborating on project deliverables and streamlining project management activities by navigating issues and risks in an optimized way. The individual must effectively and regularly connect with key senior collaborators as well as with external partners.

To be successful in the role, the candidate must be goal-oriented, will possess confirmed experience in delivering a highly visible program that brings in emerging technology/capabilities into a global organization, and have the ability to craft reasons to motivate change as a team. This individual must also be comfortable delivering either Waterfall or Agile projects and can assess the best delivery method to apply to the program. Experience in delivering analytics/AI projects is an asset.

Responsibilities

Delivery Excellence & Program Governance

  • Responsible for implementing the Gen AI program in collaboration with multiple functional and technology partners, developing analysis to identify and support improvements
  • Establishes a single program view of multiple Gen AI projects and prepares a portfolio view for senior executive updates
  • Sees the big picture and has a vision for alternative approaches to getting the job done
  • Leads the overall Gen AI use case intake/acceleration process and coordinates projects through all phases of initiation, development and implementation
  • Works with Gen AI Product Partner, Segment AA Leads, Business/Functional Stakeholders to define and handle the scope, strategy, requirements and end-to-end execution of projects
  • Ensures that assigned projects are completed within budgets and schedules while meeting business objectives
  • Identifies resource needs for the project and establishes roles, expectations, and goals with team members
  • Anticipates, identifies, analyzes, mitigates, documents, and controls project risks
  • Drives the assessment, management, and mitigation of project risks that impede successful program delivery
  • Understands nature of impact and creates lessons learned for future delivery
  • Works with Segment AA Leads to follow documentation standard processes and sharing of technical expertise
Partner Engagement & Communications
  • Leads the coordination of efforts of the Gen AI Product Partner, Advanced Analytics Teams, Architects and Engineers to meet business and technical requirements
  • Provides effective and regular communication within the project team, partners, sponsors, and management
  • Develop and present project and portfolio status updates, findings, and/or recommendations to an Executive audience
Financial Management
  • Reports on and manages project resource tracking and budgets for project area
  • Participate in the annual budget process, ensuring that Gen AI priorities, scope and budget needs are incorporated into the annual planning process
  • Work with Finance partners to ensure the project expenses are correctly identified and tagged
Business Case Development
  • Lead the planning, mobilization and partner engagement required to build the case for Gen AI execution
  • Ensure the case is developed in alignment with the organizational delivery framework, including but not limited to cost-benefit analysis, risk assessment guidelines, etc.
What we are looking for
  • 7-10 years of hands-on experience in program delivery and execution excellence
  • Consistent track record in delivering a program that brings in emerging technologies / capabilities into a global organization with the goal of redefining the business and unlocking significant business value
  • Has expertise in managing both waterfall and agile project methodologies; PMP or CSM designation would be an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both technical and non-technical terms, verbal and written, to both a Senior Executive audience and project delivery teams; able to effectively articulate the business opportunity, solution vision, possibilities, and outcomes to technical and non-technical audience
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills; has experience in collaborating and partnering with business/functional collaborators, data scientists, data engineers, architects, and vendor SMEs across a global, distributed environment
  • Proven track record of effective monitoring and reporting program updates, risks and issues
  • Strong analytical skills, copes with complex situations using both skills and experience to lead to the right outcomes
  • Use knowledge of the subject area to suggest alternate approach options to leadership based on current project obstacles and objectives
  • High standard of work within the program, applying both skills and experience to drive and govern the program, as well as develop deliverables
  • Constantly learns from successes and failures
  • Knowledge of corporate function processes and capabilities
  • Exposure to large language models (LLMs) or other generative AI capabilities is an asset
  • Experience in managing and delivering large-scale analytics/AI projects involving cross-functional technical teams, business partners, and change management partners is a plus

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between $103,050.00 CAD - $185,490.00 CAD
