The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range: $115,274 - $144,093

maximum starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity.

Performance range: $165,707

salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.

An employee in this classification is excluded from the bargaining unit as defined in the Labour Relations Code

Job Summary
The Director, Financial Reporting and Training is responsible for overseeing the preparation and delivery of accurate, timely, and relevant financial statements and reports for both internal stakeholders (including senior management and executive leadership) and external users to support informed financial decision-making. This role ensures the integrity of the university's general ledger, maintaining proper classifications, categories, and balances to reflect accurate financial information.


In addition, the Director provides leadership in financial training, offering guidance and expertise to all university financial statement users. This includes interpreting and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), as well as ensuring compliance with established accounting policies and procedures. The position plays a key role in fostering financial literacy across the institution and promoting best practices in financial reporting and accountability.


The Director, Financial Reporting & Training is responsible for the production and delivery of reliable, relevant, accurate, and timely financial statements and reports to both internal stakeholders (senior management and executive) and external users to support informed financial decision-making. This includes maintaining the University's general ledger to ensure that financial classifications, categories, and balances are accurately reflected.

The Director also provides accounting training, advice, and guidance to all users of the University's financial statements, ensuring alignment with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), as well as University accounting procedures and policies.


This role prepares internal and external financial reports and statements for the University and its consolidated entities, ensuring compliance with government legislation, University policies, and GAAP.


Additional Responsibilities:


Deliver training and guidance to departments and faculties on accounting principles, software applications, tax regulations, and University policies. Conduct analytical reviews and cost-benefit analyses to support financial decision-making. Ensure the integrity and security of financial data and access to the University's accounting systems and applications. Oversee Endowment and Pension Accounting, including financial reporting, annual budgeting, award disbursements, and capitalization processes. Job Requirements
This position requires a current CPA in good standing with a minimum of five (5) years of post designation experience in professional accounting including the preparation of complex consolidated financial statements.

A minimum three (3) years leading leaders, including coaching, performance planning, workload planning and recruitment.


An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.


Additional Qualifications:


Expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and auditing standards, with a strong emphasis on Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), including PSAS with Section 4200. Thorough understanding of financial controls and relevant legislation, such as the Income Tax Act (Canada) and IRS reporting requirements, and their application to the University's accounting and financial reporting processes. Experience with endowment and/or pension financial reporting and related disclosures. Experience in designing and delivering finance training, providing technical guidance on complex accounting issues within a large, diverse, and sophisticated accounting environment. Extensive familiarity with large-scale accounting systems, practices, and processes. Demonstrated computer literacy, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Strong ability to manage tasks and projects within strict deadlines, working collaboratively with departmental staff and independently with minimal supervision. Excellent communication skills to convey critical financial information to a diverse audience, including those without financial expertise, who are responsible for decisions impacting the University's financial outcomes.
Experience with Banner Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and FAST Finance Reporting is considered an asset.
