The members are committed to meeting the mobility needs of Canadians by providing greater consumer choice, offering leading-edge safety and environmental technologies, while eliminating unnecessary regulatory and trade barriers. \xe2\x80\x93 Director, Federal Affairs General Accountability: Member of the small GAC team contributing to the association\xe2\x80\x99s success in Ottawa across all files. You will work with the president, staff and member companies to proactively develop strategies to:

  • Garner intelligence and insight as to current priorities and considerations at play within the federal government that impact the issues of concern to the members
  • Increase the effectiveness and influence of the Association with key departments and politicians on matters of importance to the members
  • Utilize communications and social media to advance the Association, its issues and its member companies
  • Facilitate the monitoring and distribution of federal legislative and regulatory initiatives potentially impacting the members
  • Responsible for management of all the association\'s key current federal issues in concert with the President, GAC staff and members
  • Lead for all Ottawa association events (Hill Days, Technology Displays etc.)
Specific Accountabilities: Responsible for: \xc2\xb7 Weekly monitoring of Federal Gazette for issues and initiatives that may impact the member companies across all files \xc2\xb7 Monitoring the federal public agendas (Standing Committee Agendas, Hansard, Orders of Business etc.) as well as mainstream, trade, and social media for emerging issues of importance to the members \xc2\xb7 The development and execution of advocacy efforts with the federal government and civil service on policy, legislative and regulatory compliance matters in conjunction the President, GAC staff and members \xc2\xb7 Liaising with other relevant industry associations on common issues to develop common or complementary responses to government consultations/initiatives \xc2\xb7 Interfacing with Canadian, American and International officials on regulatory cooperation and standards alignment issues \xc2\xb7 The production of information bulletins on issues of importance to the member companies and for which a permanent record regarding the issue should be maintained \xc2\xb7 The cultivation and development of a documented industry and government (political and civil servant) network to provide early warning on emerging issues and mechanisms for expediting the appropriate resolution of issues of concern to the members \xc2\xb7 Other duties as assigned by the President Candidate Attributes: \xc2\xb7 Minimum undergraduate degree with focus in political science/law \xc2\xb7 5 years work experience, stakeholder relations, government relations/monitoring
  • Bi-lingual (French/English) (preferred)
  • Located in Ottawa
  • Used to fast paced environment dealing with multiple issues
  • Superb presentation and writing skills
  • High degree of familiarity with the parliamentary process and how laws and regulations are developed
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills
  • Able to synthesize large amounts of information into concise but informative bulletins and communiques for members
  • Impeccable research and investigative skills
  • Diplomatic yet persuasive
Reports to: President Support Resources: Group Executive Assistant \xe2\x80\x93 Sadaf Amdjadi Hours : 8:30 a.m. \xe2\x80\x93 4:30 p.m. Staff members are currently working from home a It is understood that at times the responsibilities of the position will entail working and travel outside of stated office hours as a normal part of the position. Overtime will occasionally be a factor in the job and compensation will be provided via lieu time. Job Type: Full-time Salary: $122,721.00-$130,755.00 per year Benefits:
