Job Description


The Director of Facilities Management is responsible for overseeing facilities operations, managing facilities budgets, directing routine maintenance, responding to emergencies, managing risk, managing contractors, overseeing security, conducting site inspections, and coordinating construction projects. The successful candidate will ensure that all the necessary installations, Facilities schedules, and system updates are completed on time and in compliance with the relevant H&S regulations. The Director will work towards operational effectiveness and efficiency developing strategies to mitigate equipment issues and ultimately reduce equipment downtime.

Position Overview

  • Directs, supervises, and evaluates department staff including Maintenance, Security, and HSE; ensures staff receives training related to specific job tasks and responsibilities
  • Schedules, and oversees external contractors (electricians, plumbers, excavators, roofers, painters, landscapers, etc.) ensuring quality work built to spec and obtaining final as-builts
  • Oversees maintenance workers engaged in building and grounds upkeep and repair with responsibility for safety and security, electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and ventilation services
  • Develops and monitors department budget; orders equipment and supplies and monitors inventory, while leading spare part management to ensure minimal downtime due to unplanned events; makes requests for capital outlay expenditures as needed.
  • Develops, implements, and supervises preventative maintenance and renovation programs for buildings, grounds, mechanical and electrical, utility, and safety and security systems
  • Implements security policies and safety procedures for both internal use and contractors especially relating to maintenance or renovation events
  • Collaborates with other management staff to set priorities and solve problems encountered by other departments
  • Applies theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of operations, repair procedures, and troubleshooting to support facility equipment reliability and minimize equipment downtime
  • Oversees the project management of new equipment installations or facility modifications
  • Oversees, improves upon, and implements a robust Total Preventative System for the facility, working closely with operations staff. This includes contingency planning to keep the facility running in cases of critical failures.
  • Ensures CMMS system is maintained, updated and all PMs are tracked
  • Sets front-line performance standards, providing coaching and feedback to build capability and improve performance of facilities support staff
  • Other duties as assigned
People Management:
  • Provides day-to-day oversight for direct reports
  • Fosters and maintains a positive and collaborative work environment to motivate staff
  • Identifies, tracks and reports on progress against organizational key performance goals
  • Identifies and allocates resources (people and equipment) based on business & operational priorities
  • Identifies and removes obstacles that prevent staff from accomplishing tasks
  • Provides continuous performance feedback for direct reports through regular one-on-one meetings and/or dept meetings
  • Conducts formal performance reviews for staff as per the schedule defined by Human Resources (2x per year)
  • Delivers Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and monitors accordingly
  • Actively participates in the recruitment process to grow the department when required
  • With support from HR, manages offboarding (terminations)
Qualifications
  • 10+ years demonstrated experience managing projects, coordinating contractors/vendors
  • Degree/Diploma/Certification in Engineering, Operations Management, Facilities Management, and/or Project Management (PMP certification an asset)
  • Entrepreneurial mindset to work in a rapidly growing manufacturing environment ensuring we are top priority for external vendors
  • Tech savvy \xe2\x80\x93 Expertise in leveraging CMMS systems, project management software, and the like
  • Organized and process driven, ensuring proper and prompt documentation and attention to detail
  • 5+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a multi-site manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of GPP standards, Health Canada security regulations, and OH&S regulations is an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical equipment, spare parts, risk mitigation, and construction
  • Experience with industrial equipment, dealing with hazardous materials, and working with safety engineers
  • Strong planning, analytical, negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Superior problem-solving skills are a requirement to make sure all issues are resolved quickly and swiftly, thereby causing minimum stoppage in general operations.
