Sun Life has established a new 3 year roadmap for data governance / information management risk.

The Director, Data Governance Risk will provide 2nd line oversight of Sun Life\xe2\x80\x99s data governance / information management risk practices. In collaboration with our business risk and technology partners, the incumbent will be responsible for leading and overseeing the maturity assessment, development and implementation of the data governance / information management risk policy.

What you need to succeed:

  • Extensive governance risk experience in the regulated financial services industry with 5 or more years of progressive leadership experience.
8 or more years of experience with Data Management Frameworks including:
  • Data management and data quality experience in a large, complex enterprise
  • Data Governance
  • Metadata Management
  • Data Quality
  • Data Lifecycle & Records Management
  • Data Literacy
  • Maturity Assessments
  • Strong understanding of related regulatory requirements such as California \xe2\x80\x9cConsumer Protection Act\xe2\x80\x9d, and OSFI\xe2\x80\x99s E-21, B-10, and B-13 guidelines
  • Expert level data analysis skills required
  • Experience in data quality technologies, preference to those applied in the context of data quality tools and platforms.
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality, metadata, data classification etc..
  • Ability to operate and influence effectively across all levels of the organization (both locally and globally); proven track record influencing diverse sets of stakeholders and driving common outcomes.
3 or more years experience in the following areas:
  • Experience in defining and implementing a data management framework in a complex organization environment.
  • Experience in a leadership role in complex transformation initiatives, encompassing people, process and technology aspects of change.
  • Ability to work with Agile delivery methods.

  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to motivate external stakeholders to action
  • Strong collaboration and negotiation skills
  • Ability to drive work to completion
  • Experience with transformation strategy, approach, and planning
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Degree in Data Management, Computer Science, Information Systems or related work experience.
What you will do:
  • Mature Information Management (IM) Risk Policy and enterprise operating guidelines
  • Develop and conduct data governance / IM maturity assessments in partnership with 1st Line SMEs
  • Partner with BG Risk teams to develop local Operating Guidelines or transition plans to meet Enterprise requirements
  • Function as 2nd Line SME for Data Management and Records Management best practices to support the following:
  • Provide tools and guidance to Business Group Risk teams for assessing compliance with policy
  • Providing guidance to Business Group Risk teams on assessing IM Risk through Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs)
  • Challenging and overseeing the development of Enterprise Key Risk Indicators
  • Providing guidance and independent opinion to Sun Life technology teams of data management and records management best practices
  • Quarterly, assessing data governance / information management risk for the enterprise

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
