What is the role?

As the Director of Data Engineering and Innovation, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving Canadian Banking Operations data engineering capabilities. This leadership position requires a unique combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and innovation to leverage data and advanced analytics solutions that drive business growth, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure regulatory compliance. You will oversee a team of data engineers and collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders to design, develop, and implement scalable and resilient data pipeline solutions supporting actionable insights for senior executives and business partners.

What will you do?

  • Lead and manage a team of data engineers supporting Canadian banking operations providing technical guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging data technologies, tools, and methodologies relevant to Canadian Banking Operations while fostering innovation and enhancing data engineering capabilities.
  • Foster a culture of innovation within the data engineering team, encouraging experimentation and exploration of new ideas and technologies and enforce best practices for data engineering ensuring adherence to industry standards, data governance, and data security protocols.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, data product owners, and business stakeholders with WFM, Incentive and Lines of Business, to understand their data requirements and deliver high-quality data pipeline solutions.
  • Design and oversee the development of scalable, efficient, and robust data pipelines for Canadian Banking Operations spanning across employee productivity, capacity planning, incentive designs and reporting.
  • Implement and maintain data governance practices, data quality standards, and data management frameworks specific to the Canadian Banking sector to ensure data integrity, consistency, and compliance.
  • Partner with business leaders and stakeholders within CBO to identify data-driven opportunities, define project requirements, and deliver solutions that meet their specific needs and comply with regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaborate with DNA and Day2 Support team to ensure seamless integration and interoperability with the delivery of the data pipelines into production
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, translating complex concepts into clear and actionable action items.
What do you need?

Must have skills:
  • 7+ Years in data engineering roles
  • 3-5 Years of experience managing teams.
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s or Ph.D. in Computer Science or Engineering
  • Strong expertise in data engineering principles, practices, and tools including data modeling, ETL processes, data integration, and data warehousing
  • Strong knowledge of design, development, and implementation experience utilizing data science technologies.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, and experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • - Solid understanding of Canadian banking regulations, data governance, data security, and data privacy requirements (e.g., OSFI, PIPEDA).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Expert technical documentation skills.
  • Contribution to research communities including publishing papers.
  • Knowledge in data extraction, transformation, and load processes with a variety of data types
  • Knowledge with big data technologies \xe2\x80\x93 Hadoop (Pig, Hive), noSQL/SQL databases, parallel processing techniques and Apache Spark
