The Director of Corporate Development will play a critical role at Meridian driving our Corporate Development (Strategic Partnerships, M&A, and Strategic Investments, etc.) function and activities by working very closely with the SVP, Strategy & EMPO and the Senior Leadership Team(SLT). The extension and diversification of our businesses is a key enabler for our Meridian For Good (MFG) Strategy.

The Director will support the development of our Strategic Partnership framework, build and manage our strategic partnership pipeline, engage in discussions with third parties and advisors, and oversee the execution of diligence and transaction activities as appropriate.

This role will be required to be flexible, to be able to work at both a high-level, as well as being able to roll up their sleeves to bring work to completion. This role will collaborate closely with our Director of Enterprise Strategy and our SLT to evaluate opportunities that accelerate and sustain our MFG Strategy.

Your role as a Director, Corporate Development, you will:

Propelling Strategic Priorities Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify, investigate and analyze potential new opportunities that accelerate the MFG strategy. Monitor markets, industries and organizations with potential strategic and acquisition interest.
  • Develop the strategic rationale for potential partnerships and transactions and present recommendations to SVP, Strategy & EPMO.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with internal stakeholders, and industry and professional networks to support corporate development opportunities.
  • Manage the pipeline of potential strategic opportunities; ensuring progress and visibility to SVP
  • Participate in the annual strategic planning process and the development of detailed supporting strategies and initiatives
  • Oversight and reporting against our Strategic Partnership & M & A Framework
  • Ensure the effective execution of the Incubation Framework to support the evaluation of new opportunities
Assessment and Transaction Responsibilities
  • Gather data and perform analysis regarding potential partnerships, services, products, companies, categories, geographies, and industries to identify relative strategic fit. Develop effective tools to quickly determine which are a strong fit to the MFG strategy
  • Assist in managing cross-functional teams for transaction processes including strategic analysis, due diligence, valuation, synergy identification, etc.
  • As required, lead transaction execution processes, including coordination of internal working group, management of advisors (e.g., internal, or external legal resources), due diligence process, data room management, etc.
  • Work with SVP and key stakeholders on strategic and ad hoc projects
Leadership Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, counsel and mentorship to direct reports
  • Lead effective performance management processes, employee development plans, succession planning and coaching strategies for direct reports
  • Work collaboratively with the rest of the organization and integrate seamlessly
  • Act as a strategic thought leader (thinking ahead \xe2\x80\x93 mapping the future)
  • Create opportunities that are rooted in actionable insights
  • Own and drive business results!
How you will succeed:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in commerce or economics (or equivalent) is required; a Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in business and/or CFA preferred
  • Seven to ten years of relevant experience, including three to five years in corporate development / transaction execution
  • Experience in a large financial advisory / consulting firm with a specific focus in technology solutions would be an asset
  • Prior financial services industry experience or knowledge (banking, insurance, wealth management, leasing, and financial technology)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to make clear, concise presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to act in a leadership role and interact with senior-level management
  • Entrepreneurial minded and results-oriented leader
  • Exceptional relationship building skills to develop internal and external networks to support the acceleration of the MFG strategy
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, critical thinking, negotiating, influencing, facilitation, organizational, prioritization, and decision making skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment with rapidly changing priorities
