We are currently looking for a passionate and experienced Director of Community Relations to join our team in Victoria. In this role you will be responsible for promoting both GSL’s and the Victoria Royals’ reputation and brand within the community by developing and implementing strategies of corporate and community engagement. This will include a corporate partnership program that focuses on sponsorship and activation opportunities and strategic partnerships. These strategies and activities will contribute to revenue generation and support the goals of the Sales team, as well as build long-term mutually beneficial partnerships with our surrounding community. This position will work closely with the Sales & Sponsorship team, Marketing team, and Hockey Operations team. This role will report to the VP of Sales & Strategic Partnerships and will be based out of the Save On Foods Memorial Centre. Have we got your attention yet? Good! Now let's get into the details: Day in the Life:
This multi-faceted role will have a number of accountabilities, including but not exclusive to those listed below:

  • Increase brand awareness and encourage a healthy relationship between the organization and the community
  • Build community pride and drive event and game attendance
  • Support strategic initiatives to create and maintain a positive public image for the organization
  • Plan, develop, implement, and analyze community relations campaigns, marketing efforts, and related events
  • Cultivate new corporate and community relationships while maintaining and growing existing partnerships to generate revenue
  • Develops strategy and programs designed to represent the organization favorably and make positive contributions to the community
  • Builds, maintains and strengthens relationships between GSL, the Victoria Royals, and key individuals, organizations and stakeholders within the community (like the City of Victoria, Sports Tourism Victoria & Kelowna, local businesses, and the media)
  • Media Management – heavily involved in media, attempting to increase exposure and capture the attention of local residents
  • Support marketing initiatives and act as a representative of the company at corporate or public events
  • Partners with the Events and Marketing teams to effectively market events and hockey games, and communicate with key stakeholders
  • Coordinates off site community events and supports pre-and-post-game community initiatives
  • Through community relations programs, facilitates, and supports season ticket initiatives and revenue goals, in partnership with Sales team
  • Chairs and supports future campaigns for Memorial Cup, The Brier, Basketball Canada, etc.
  • Manages the community relations calendar and works to update and provide information to leadership regarding community relations, events, and initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in Public Relations, Communications, Sales or Marketing a definite asset
  • 5+years of experience in a similar role
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Proven communication and writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership, organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Demonstrated self-starter
  • Ability to take initiative, analyze problems, identify key information and issues, and effectively resolve
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment, and to bring energy, motivation and enthusiasm to the job
  • Must be creative, detail oriented, and possess a strong work ethic
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required
  • Knowledge of, and a passion for sports is an asset
  • Flexible approach to work; This position requires the ability to periodically work non-standard hours including evenings and weekends
