Through its Foundation, CAMH is breaking ground in mental health philanthropy globally.The Director, Clinical Quality, Experience and Safety will play a key leadership role in leading CAMH to continually improve the experience for patients and their families. Reporting to the Senior Vice-President, Clinical Care, the Director will be responsible for developing and enabling CAMH's approach to quality and experience using a data driven approach to understand, and support quality improvement. Leading teams with expertise in safety, quality improvement, and patient and family experience, the Director will advance the work of the Connected CAMH strategic plan with teams across CAMH. The Director will also have primary responsibility for overseeing organizational accreditation, along with oversight for related policies and procedures. The Director will also have oversight of patient and family experience, with a focus on ensuring that the patient and family voice is heard. This includes patient relations and CAMH's approach to receiving feedback through surveys and other methods. The Director also provides oversight to several program areas that directly support patients and families including the Gifts of Light, a donor funded program that provides over 16, 000 patients resources and experiences to support their health journey, teams providing support in the patient and family resource centre and other family services.The Director, Clinical Quality, Experience and Safety works in a dyad leadership model with the Medical Director, Quality, Experience and Safety.Key leadership initiatives for the new Director will include:

  • In a dyad leadership model, work closely with the Medical Director, Quality, Experience and Safety to develop an approach to quality and experience, that engages teams across CAMH.
  • Collaborate with leaders across CAMH to understand and advance improvements in the quality of care across CAMH where needed.
  • Establish the necessary structures and teams to enable quality that promotes a seamless and high quality experience across CAMH and supporting the use of lessons learned from on effective ways to improve care from one part of CAMH to inform actions throughout the organization.
  • Alongside the Medical Director, develop and lead CAMH's Quality Improvement Academy.
  • Lead the annual process to develop a robust Quality Improvement Plan for CAMH. Put in place appropriate structures to support teams to take actions across CAMH, and regularly report on progress.
  • Lead our approach to patient and family engagement in the development of CAMH programs and initiatives, guided by best practices and a commitment to co-design. As a priority of the Connected CAMH strategy this will include leading the development of an approach to expanded services to support families/caregivers at CAMH.
  • Collaborate closely with leaders in analytics, clinical information and the Information Management Group to advance the work on quality, experience, and safety.
  • The Director, Clinical Quality, Experience and Safety is a key member of the Clinical Leadership Team (CLT) at CAMH. The Director also supports the work of the Quality of Care Committee to review and assess opportunities for improvement in quality and safety and assists, as required, in the preparation of agendas and materials for the Clinical Quality of Care Committee.
The successful candidate will have 5 to 10 years management experience working with various size teams and progressively larger and more complex projects in healthcare. They will have experience with managing multiple portfolios and initiatives that require working across organizations. A Master's degree in a healthcare related field is required. Further education and professional development in quality improvement, and knowledge of process redesign methodologies including Lean Six Sigma Certification green/yellow/black is preferred.The Director Clinical Quality and Experience is a strong collaborator who builds partnerships and is proficient in working across the organization to inspire and achieve outcomes. The Director has excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to navigate challenging situations, where information is difficult to obtain, complex or ambiguous.Knowledge and experience working with system partners including; Accreditation Canada, Ontario Health, Ontario Health Teams, Centre for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (CQUIPS), Institute for Health Policy Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto, related Toronto Academic Health Science Network tables and groups is an asset.The successful candidate will embrace CAMH's commitment to Courage, Respect and Excellence and that mental health is health.CAMH is a fully affiliated teaching hospital and research institute of the University of Toronto.
