The Opportunity:
The Director, Brand & Trade Marketing will play the vital role of connecting the dots between Brand and Product marketing and Sales, developing consumer and trade activation strategies, trade marketing programs and implementing plans to grow the recreational cannabis business in Canada. The selected candidate will work closely across all teams and functions including but not limited to Marketing, Sales, R&D, Innovation, Regulatory and Legal. The role will report to the VP, Marketing and Communications.

As a Director, Brand & Trade Marketing you will:
  • Build and assess innovative and impactful branded consumer and trade marketing programs that grow brand awareness, equity and consumer and trade engagement across all relevant channels
  • Develop a portfolio retail program and merchandising strategy that supports new brand, product and business development initiatives; align national brand objectives with regional trade, national key account and general sales objectives
  • Monitor and measure program execution and effectiveness; provide post-mortem analysis and recommendations on future programs
  • Monitor, collect insights and report competitive brand activity putting forward recommendations for quick and effective pivots and program adjustments where applicable
  • Provide retail and trade specific guidance, perspective and thought leadership on new business pitches
  • Develop and Lead annual brand planning/business plans, quarterly sales plans and go to market strategies as it pertains to consumer and trade marketing activation
  • Provide retail level input towards pricing strategy
  • Educate team about retail and field level category trends, competition and partner portfolio strategies
  • Provide ongoing training and assist with development of consumer & trade marketing team
  • All other duties as assigned by VP, Marketing and Communications
As a Director, Brand & Trade Marketing you bring:
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
  • BA in Marketing, Business Administration or other related field
  • 7+ years experience working in a fast-paced consumer packaged goods company in a consumer & trade activation role
  • Thorough knowledge and experience developing consumer & trade activation programs as well as point of creative development and production fundamentals
  • Experience managing agency relationships, writing and editing creative briefs, and providing creative feedback in line with brand and product strategy
  • Curiosity to discover ways of collecting and translating consumer and trade data into actionable decisions that directly influence the programming we create
  • Significant experience managing projects with cross-functional teams
  • Proven experience in measuring consumer and trade program effectiveness and ROI
  • Strong experience in budget building, managing and tracking for accounts and brands
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Ability to be agile and handle new regulations
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written and communication skills
  • Ability to complete a satisfactory criminal record check
