Job Description

Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director, Audit & Risk to join our office in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The

Director, Audit & Risk

provides strategic leadership and oversight to Winnipeg-based internal audit and risk function, ensuring the organization's risk management and internal control systems are effective and efficient. This role involves planning, executing, and reporting on audit activities, as well as advising senior management on risk management and control issues. It's a role that's central to WCLC's operations - helping us understand and mitigate risks in our current and future business environment so we can continue to generate dividends that get returned to our member provinces. The Director, Audit and Risk reports functionally to the Audit Committee Chair and administratively to the President & CEO.




Key accountabilities and responsibilities



Audit Planning and Oversight:

Develop and implement a risk-based audit plan, ensuring it aligns with organizational goals and objectives.


Audit Execution and Reporting:

Plan, execute, and report on audit engagements, providing assurance on the effectiveness of risk management and internal control systems


Enterprise Risk Management:

Grow the company's ERM strategy and tools, practices, and policies to analyze, mitigate, and track enterprise risks (operational, reputational, strategic, financial).


Leadership and Management:

Lead internal audit and risk staff, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback


Stakeholder Communication:

Communicate audit findings and recommendations to senior management, the Audit Committee, and other stakeholders


Continuous Improvement:

Stay current with industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging risks, and implement improvements to audit methodologies and processes.


Compliance:

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.


Collaboration:

Work with cross-functional teams to integrate audit findings and risk management activities into business strategies and operational improvements.


Lottery Draw Audit:

Manage the independent draw audit activities related to system events and processing results for draw-based and sports lottery games


Support or lead special projects as required.




Represent Audit on committees to develop or modify business processes and/or proposed systems enhancements for implementation. Take part in meetings and/or committees to ensure your department is aware of business developments that could have an impact on audit priorities and plans.



Education and professional skills/knowledge




7+ years of combined audit, leadership, and operational experience Post-secondary education in business The Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation and Chartered Professional accountant designation (CPA) Audit experience in an Information Technology environment, including conducting operational audits Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation skills Strong management skills including performance management, planning, prioritization, objective setting, and plan execution Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to lead, interact with, influence, resolve conflict and drive consensus among individuals from a variety of cultures and disciplines Ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously with minimal direction, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals Familiarity with the COSO framework is an asset CISA designation is a definite asset
