BOMA Edmonton is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Advocacy and Communications to join our team. As the Director of Advocacy and Communications, you\xe2\x80\x99ll work alongside BOMA Edmonton\xe2\x80\x99s President & CEO to realize the strategic direction of the organization as lead on BOMA\xe2\x80\x99s advocacy and communications activities. BOMA Edmonton works towards four key objectives: (1) An educated and Diverse Workforce, (2) Fair and Equitable Taxation, Policies, and Regulations, (3) Sustainable, Smart, and Healthy Buildings, (4) Safe Communities and Vibrant Economies. Our target audiences for communications are members of BOMA and the commercial real estate industry, as well as non-industry stakeholders and the public. Role Responsibilities Develop and Implement advocacy and communications strategies, plans, and initiatives: At a high level, the Director of Advocacy and Communications will work with BOMA Edmonton\xe2\x80\x99s
President and CEO; Board of Directors; strategists and consultants; member volunteers; subjec matter experts; and partners within the BOMA national and international network, the real estate industry, and the broader community to set the big picture and achieve the results outlined in the strategies, plans, and initiatives that form our advocacy and communications framework.
You\xe2\x80\x99ll be the caretaker of these living plans, ensuring that they are followed and adjusted as needed, properly resourced, and that results are tracked and communicated. www.bomaedm.ca 2 Implement and oversee all aspects of our communications activities: BOMA Edmonton is a small organization. One moment you\xe2\x80\x99ll be in mapping out strategic communications objectives and the next moment you\xe2\x80\x99ll be setting up a newsletter, writing an op-ed, handling media relations, editing an article, seeking new tools to improve our communications, writing speeches, developing new brands, or coordinating a meeting. We have an all-hands-on-deck approach on our team \xe2\x80\x93 no task is too big or too small for anyone \xe2\x80\x93 and we must think big while also taking care of the details to ensure quality communications within our target audiences. Set and drive BOMA Edmonton\xe2\x80\x99s advocacy: We are an industry and professional association.
Advocacy is a key reason why we exist. You\xe2\x80\x99ll develop, execute, and maintain a multi-year advocacy and communications strategy and implementation plan that will guide the efforts of
BOMA Edmonton staff, consultants, and volunteers and partners. You\xe2\x80\x99ll help to develop strategies for new markets as BOMA Edmonton continues to expand within and outside of
Edmonton into its broader geographical area. You\xe2\x80\x99ll anticipate potential sectoral advocacy and policy challenges and work jointly to identify solutions. You\xe2\x80\x99ll skillfully formulate tactical strategies to influence and engage key stakeholders, particularly as it relates to BOMA
Edmonton\xe2\x80\x99s priority advocacy issues. Coordinate and manage people involved in advocacy and communications: You\xe2\x80\x99ll oversee the day-to-day efforts of the team, coordinate meetings and sessions, and support committees.
You\xe2\x80\x99ll work to build our capacity by recruiting and fostering an expanded team of dedicated volunteers with capabilities in advocacy and communications and in the four strategic areas within which BOMA Edmonton strives to make a difference. This may also translate into building the internal team\xe2\x80\x99s capacity as BOMA Edmonton grows. Track industry trends, analyze policy impacting CRE, conduct research, draft policy papers and briefing notes, write reports: If you like policy and current events, this job is for you. The
Director of Advocacy and Communications should enjoy learning and connecting dots, digging deeper into issues, and gathering data to inform decision-making. This is a critical part of the job \xe2\x80\x93 to have your finger on the pulse and to meet regularly with experts, read industry reports and news, and to stay on top of what is going on in municipal, provincial, and federal politics. Provide guidance and thought leadership: The Director of Advocacy and Communications will bring the commercial real estate advocacy community to the next level by providing high-level thought leadership, encouraging, and contributing to bold, outside-the-box thinking, and identifying and funding new effective strategies and tactics. You\xe2\x80\x99ll help lead the development of a bold communications strategy and updated communications assets for advocacy efforts.

  • Bachelor\'s degree in related field preferred but not necessary
  • 10+ years of experience in advocacy and communications
  • Proven track record in advocacy and communications
