We're looking for our next Director, Accounting & Financial Operations. Could it be you?
The Director, Accounting and Financial Operations will lead the accounting and financial operations for Questbank and CTC, reporting to the Corporate Controller. This vital leadership role within the Controllership and broader Finance team is accountable for ensuring the accurate and timely accounting for Questbank and CTC (Financial Regulated Financial Institutions or FRFIs).
Leading a team of nine, the Director will drive the implementation of efficient and well-controlled accounting and financial processes, leveraging technology to ensure materially accurate financial results at all times. This role is also a key leader in finance enablement for Questbank and CTC initiatives, overseeing the accounting and financial operational requirements for enterprise projects. The Director will foster cross-functional collaboration within the FRFIs and with QFG finance to achieve enterprise objectives, ensuring compliance with relevant rules, regulations, and IFRS, and maintaining a robust system of internal controls.
The Director will oversee complex accounting, implementation of new IFRS, implementation of financial processes to support new products and technology and ensure compliance with policies and regulations. In addition, the Director will be the key contact overseeing related party transactions between QB/CTC and other QFG entities (i.e. QTG, QE, FFI etc.)

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
People
Developing and maintaining a skilled and effective accounting and financial operations function with an organizational design that supports control objectives and manages operational risks.
Providing impactful leadership and coaching to the accounting and financial operations team and actively contributing as a key member of the broader finance leadership team.
Leading the team to ensure robust controls, capture of meaningful data to inform business insights, and meet the requirements of relevant regulators (e.g., OSFI) and other stakeholders (e.g., FP&A, reporting team, treasury, Executive).
Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and strong collaboration within the team and across the broader finance organization.
Accounting / GL
Overseeing and managing the end-to-end comprehensive accounting operations, including product accounting (mortgages, deposits, credit cards, and new product launches), complex accounting, securitization, debt financing, hedge accounting, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, treasury support, related party transactions, project cost tracking, and corporate allocation tracking and reporting.
Ensuring strict compliance with all relevant accounting standards and FRFI accounting policies, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other regulatory requirements from agencies like OSFI.
Maintaining an optimized chart of accounts and Profit/Cost Centre hierarchy to support the diverse reporting needs of all stakeholders, including product level profitability.
Managing and ensuring the accurate accounting for complex financial instruments, transactions and estimates, including derivatives, securitizations, fair values and expected credit losses.
Leading the accounting operations impact assessment and facilitating the seamless implementation of new IFRS standards.
Processes / Internal Controls
Implementing and continuously improving best-in-class business processes to streamline operations, enable company growth, and meet aggressive financial close timelines.
Ensuring the team operates in full compliance with approved financial policies, procedures, and FRFI accounting policies, strictly adhering to the Board-approved Risk Appetite.
Developing, maintaining, restructuring, and enhancing robust internal controls and procedures to protect and safeguard the FRFI's assets, scaling controls in line with the Board-approved Internal Control Policy and meeting RCM and RCSA program expectations.
Strategically contributing to the year-end audit process, analyzing audit findings, and driving process improvements based on audit results.
Overseeing the development and regular updating of comprehensive business recovery plans for accounting and financial operations.
Collaborating effectively with internal audit to proactively addressing findings and implement timely corrective actions for any identified control deficiencies.
Ensuring thorough documentation of all accounting and financial processes and controls to maintain continuous audit readiness.
Projects / Technology
Managing the financial systems supporting accounting and financial operations across the FRFIs, including Netsuite, Procurity, Gatekeeper, Kyriba, and Blackline, ensuring maximum productivity to meet current and future business needs.
Driving enhanced utilization of Blackline for optimized workflow management and reconciliations.
Leading the accounting and financial operations enablement for enterprise initiatives and new product launches, including the Temenos implementation, encompassing business requirements definition, solution integration and testing.
Driving enhanced automation and integration of financial systems, actively supporting the development of a centralized finance data lake and acting as a data steward for critical finance data.
Ensuring effective utilization of all finance-related technologies available at QFG, maximizing technology leverage by every team member to ensure scalability, efficiency, and stringent internal control.
Acting as primary liaison for Finance in ensuring data and corresponding reports from source systems (Transact, PowerCARD, LOS/LMS, Portfolio Plus) are accurate and suitable for Financial reporting needs. Raise any identified issues/risks to appropriate Technology teams for swift remediation.

Hold a professional accounting designation (CPA-CA)
Have 5+ years of progressive leadership experience within a Financial Regulated Financial Institution (FRFI) or equivalent relevant experience
Have 10+ years of comprehensive finance and accounting experience
Have in-depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), with specialized expertise in IFRS 9 and hedge accounting
Have solid understanding of the regulatory framework and reporting requirements pertinent to FRFIs
Have superior comprehension of financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow dynamics specific to deposit-taking institutions
Have advanced proficiency in leveraging technology to enhance accounting operations, with a strong interest in utilizing emerging financial technologies for competitive advantage and cost management
Possess exceptional attention to detail, coupled with the strategic ability to assess impacts on the consolidated entity
Have a proven track record of successful participation in and execution of complex projects within finance and across cross-functional teams
Have demonstrated ability to proactively identify issues, take initiative, and develop effective solutions
Have strong critical thinking skills applied to business issues, consistently driving impactful results
Have the ability to excel both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
