Direct Support Professional - Employment Specialist

Your Role:
To encourage people you support to actively explore interests and determine goals for their lives, then to record those goals and create strategies to support them to achieve their goals. To provide day-to-day support and personalized options that enable people's capacity to achieve well-connected lives at home and in their community. To assist people in ways that enable and facilitate their health, safety, and valued social roles, continually.
Your Duties:
Support the health, safety, and medical needs of the people you support
Help people connect with community spaces and resources
Support people to build independence both at home and in the community
Support people to grow relationships with family, friends, community members, employers, and community groups
Assist people with personal care, as needed, in ways that respect their choices, abilities, and dignity, and facilitates their daily, weekly, and monthly rhythms and routines
Knowledge and experience working within an Employment Ontario setting
Ability to case manage clients with a focus towards their employment goals
Experience working with various employers, developing relationships to support employment opportunities
Your Qualifications:
DSW diploma or 2-year diploma in the Human Services field
Knowledge about and commitment to disability rights, the principles of inclusion, and the Community Living Movement
Strong communication skills
Physical ability to support people, some with limited mobility, in all aspects of daily living and in different settings
Valid driver's license, acceptable driver's abstract and reliable transportation to be used in course of employment
Ability to obtain a clear Vulnerable Sector Check
Ability, availability, and commitment to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, overnights, and weekends
Use of CaMS program or willingness to learn
Demonstrated ability to document work with clients and employers
The Offer:
This is a temporary full-time position. Full-time hours are based on 75 hours per pay period. This position will regularly be scheduled shifts that include days, evenings and weekends.
Depending on the location(s) and support requirements, the worker is able to work additional hours when necessary, including emergencies, illness or vacation time.
