Camphill Communities Ontario currently has two (2) part-time permanent positions available in our Community Services program. We are seeking individuals who will enjoy and successfully work independently and together in a supportive team environment in our Angus/Barrie locations, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities who reside in a wide range of living situations. Regular hours of 20 hours per week (biweekly hours of 40 hours).






Summary:



The Direct Support Professional - Community Services will provide support, teach, and coach individuals to develop skills to lead a normal and fulfilling life. The Direct Support Professional - Community Services is responsible for the provision and coordination of CCO Community Services which include but are not limited to Community Services activities such as woodshop, land, garden, studio, pottery, and food-based programs, as well as community activities and helping secure volunteer/employment opportunities. The Direct Support Professional - Community Services will work closely with both the Community Services and Supported Living teams to observe, plan and implement activities that will facilitate the learning and development in daily living, social and life skills of the Individuals.




This is a regular weekly 20 hours (biweekly 40 hours) scheduled to the needs of the Individuals. Please note that this means the hours may be a combination of days, evenings and weekends and this will be directed based on the Individuals' and the day service's needs.







Competencies, Duties and Responsibilities



In collaboration with Community Services and Supported Living teams, plan and carry out activities to encourage growth and development, so that Individuals can fulfil their potential for independence Participate in Individuals' Person Centered Planning and assist in the implementation of their plans by respectfully supporting them Be able to utilize a personal outcome philosophy-based approach to support Individuals in making informed choices that lead to the successful attainment of their goals and aspirations Provide support, guidance and directive to Individuals in Community Services to ensure their safety and learning Provide Individuals with the opportunity to learn and practice new skills Responsible for good care and maintenance of facilities, workspaces, gardens, land and equipment Engage in ongoing efforts to develop new markets for the studio, workshops, pottery, woodshop and garden products where applicable Ensure that the CCO Health and Safety Policies and Procedures are effectively implemented in the work areas, and promote practices that support people's health and safety Complete documentation for any incidences or serious occurrences that occur at Day Services as per CCO and MCSS Policies and Procedures Participate in team meetings, relevant community meetings and CCO business meetings as required Demonstrate a caring, supportive approach that maintains the dignity and integrity of people receiving services Knowledge of available and relevant community resources Able to inform Individuals about options, and provide opportunities and experiences, supports the exercise of choice and educates about risks and benefits Demonstrated knowledge of Personal Outcome Measures in supporting individuals to develop a plan and achieve their goals Demonstrate and understand the importance of empowering people to support themselves to be healthy, happy and safe Knowledgeable about mental health and best practices in supporting people with those concerns Perceptiveness and ability to resolve conflict in a diplomatic and reasonable manner Demonstrate initiative, be resourceful and creative Work independently and collaboratively within the team and with the organization Promote practices that are inclusive, respectful and sensitive to diverse communities, including age, culture, and language Design, implement and monitor the progress of activity and recreational programs consistent with peoples individual Support Plans that will enhance the physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of people Planning skills, flexibility, dependability and reliability To advocate for and respects confidentiality at all To apply appropriate responses to unpredictable behaviour To maintain all required program records and documentation Be open to continuous learning as required, and demonstrate a willingness to learn with and from people with disabilities Support other relevant duties that may be developed or assigned by the supervisor A demonstrated maturity and desire to work with adults with developmental disabilities within the Camphill Philosophy Excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills General knowledge and experience with electronic databases, MS Office, AIMS, Microsoft Teams, Zoom considered an asset



Education, Experience and other Requirements:




DSW College Diploma or an equivalent diploma or degree in social sciences. Minimum two-year college program; and/or Curative Education, PSW and Social Therapy diploma or equivalent Camphill seminar and experience Minimum of 2 years' experience in a Day/Community Program setting working with developmentally disabled individuals Must be successfully trained in and possess current certifications in CPR, NVCI, First Aid, and Medication Administration



Access to a reliable vehicle with sufficient insurance.



Hold a Valid Ontario G Driver's License with clean driver's abstract.



Able to provide a current (within 6 months') satisfactory Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.




Hourly Rate Range:

$22.47-$24.09 per hour + 6% vacation pay
