: Full Time Direct Support Professional Position - Community Group Living

Summary Statement:


Mary Centre is currently seeking one (1) person to fill a Direct Support Professional position. The Direct Support Professional will provide direct care, support and supervision for people with a developmental disability living in a community setting according to the mission, values and principles of Mary Centre.

: Service Coordinator - Community Group Living

Working Conditions:

Forty (40) Flexible hours per week based on program needs. Evenings, weekends, and holidays will be required.

Qualifications



Community College Diploma in Developmental Services or related University or College Degree in Social or Health services. Minimum three (3) years' experience working or volunteering with people with a developmental disability.

Mandatory Requirements:



Possess a Valid Ontario Driver's License class G as driving is required on a regular basis. Having a reliable vehicle to transport people support would be an asset Computer Skills - Microsoft Word and Excel

Key Responsibilities:



Be familiar with and consistently apply the principles of Mary Centre with respect to the Mission, Values and Policies and Procedures Maintain a caseload as designated by the Service Coordinator/Director of Services Following and promoting the program locations goals and inclusiveness. Encourage self expression of people supported and utilize knowledge of verbal andnonverbal communication including alternative/augmentative communication systems and technique. (Picture exchange communication system, sign language, Proloquo 2go, and Go Talk). Provide direct support and personal care to people with developmental disabilities including but not limited to personal hygiene (Showering, bathing, dental hygiene, and toileting), dressing, and completion of physical activities. Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, including lifting, bending and prolonged standing. Ability to pay attention to detail. Demonstrate creative problem solving and decision making. Excellent communication, interpersonal and writing skills. Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills Professionalism, exercise good judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential information. Must be able to function as part of a multidisciplinary team. Participate in shift changes and Team Meetings as required, share information in a respectful and nonjudgmental manner. Experience working with people with a Dual Diagnosis, Behavioral Challenges and Complex Medical Issues Knowledge of how to implement and follow Behavior Support Plans. Provide appropriate professional understanding and intervention in response to emotional, behavioral, and physical needs of people. Knowledge on how to develop, implement and follow Individual Support Plans Excellent time management and organizational Skills Knowledge of Passport Funding Ability to work with people with changing needs and routines. Experience and ability to interact with families and community partners. Ability to keep work environment up to Health and Safety Standards including following all Infection Prevention and Control Measures, program location cleanliness and free of hazards. French language skills will be considered an asset. Positions involved with our Community Group Living service should always remember that the site is "home" to the people we support. Therefore, treat it as a "home" just as you would do within your own home. Respect the house, model and teach people (people who use the service there and other employees) how to keep the "home" clean, in good repair and safe. Do not rely on others to clean, keep neat etc. be a role model for people. Look at the house and determine does it meet basic standards? and if not, what can you do about it? If something is dirty- clean it, if the front yard has garbage in it - clean it up as we all would in our living environments. The people we support depend on us and this is an important part of assisting them in their life. Starting Salary:$26.57per hour
