About the Faculty of Social Sciences
The FSS comprises nine departments, schools and institutes, which offer undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs in both English and French. With its 10,000 students, 260 full-time professors, and wide array of programs and research centres, the Faculty of Social Sciences plays a key role at the heart of the University of Ottawa. Its graduate students are supervised by excellent researchers and undertake cutting-edge research in the Faculty's masters and Ph.D. programs. Along with its complement of about 100 administrative employees, the faculty is proud to provide a collaborative working environment that inspires new ideas, encourages creative ingenuity, and promotes excellence.

Position purpose:

Under the supervision of the Manager of Maketing and Communications and as a member of a highly integrated creative and content team, uncovers powerful client insights using the latest digital marketing analytics techniques while demonstrating a deep understanding of digital and social media. Builds and optimizes compelling marketing strategies on a wide range of digital projects. Manages projects by first listening to and gathering all client business requirements, challenges, resources, goals and objectives leading to suitable ideation and solutions. Prepares to recommend a strategic approach and the tools needed to deliver a solid strategic plan aligned to the business and communications needs of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

What you will bring:

  • A University degree in digital media, digital marketing, digital communications, a related field or an equivalent combination of studies and experience.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of digital strategies and plans.
  • Experience using metrics to measure performance of websites, campaigns and digital channels to deliver strategies and provide recommendations.
  • Knowledge of tools and technology including wireframing tools (Invision, Balsamiq), emails marketing tools (MailChimp, HubSpot Marketing, Marketo), Statistical Analysis Software (Google Analytics, Tableau, Data Studio, Site Improve, PowerBI), Web development tools (Google Trends, Google Search Console), SEO/SEM tools (Keyword Planner, SEMrush, Keywordtool, Buzzsumo), Adwords, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of content management systems (Drupal would be an asset) and tools, especially from a user and content creator perspective.
  • Advanced knowledge of web development and all aspects of the web design process.
  • Advanced knowledge of usability and accessibility best practices and standards as it pertains to digital communications channels (Web, mobile, SMS, e-mail, etc.).
  • Knowledge of persona development, user journey and segmentations to be used for tactical and strategy roadmap.
  • Knowledge of best practices in digital marketing, including responsive websites, online advertising, SEO/SEM, mobile marketing, email marketing, and social media.
  • Knowledge of various design, web and measurement tools and UX design tools.
  • A strong capacity to manage multiple projects and demands with different timelines and milestones in a complex and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong writing skills and an ability to articulate and document strategic plans.
  • The ability to create user experience deliverables such as: site maps, wireframes and/or prototypes, as needed on a per-project basis.
  • The ability to provide strong competitive analysis through research and investigation and tools.
  • Ability to lead brainstorming sessions and presentations to all levels.
  • The ability to translate client goals into measurable strategic tactics and into technical requirements.
  • Good organizational skills and able to work independently if required.
  • The ability to prioritize solutions and strategic plans in line with project requirements, scope, and timeline.
  • A healthy imagination for new technologies and budding ideas.
  • A strong capacity to remain calm, respectful, diplomatic and a capacity to manage stress.
  • Bilingualism - French and English (verbal and written).
