Job Description


Printing Services is an administrative unit that provides cost effective, timely and high-quality print-related services in support of Dalhousie\'s teaching, learning and research activities. Reporting to the Manager of Printing Services, the Digital Print Technician is a member of the production team responsible for producing a wide range of documents in response to client requests.
Key Responsibilities

  • Process files received in a variety of digital formats (via email, online web submission system, other digital media) as well as hard copy documents.
  • Review and troubleshoot digital files, liaise with clients for modifications as needed, and provide basic desktop publishing services using templates.
  • Utilize Fiery production workflow software to prepare files for printing, program jobs, and route to appropriate print device.
  • Monitor machine operation (e.g., fill paper trays, clear equipment jams, replace toner and fuser oil units). Unload print jobs from output trays and route documents to finishing or packaging area. Perform basic equipment maintenance.
  • Operate bindery and finishing equipment (e.g., folder, cutter, perforator, and drill), ensuring adherence to specifications to produce high quality, finished products.
  • Provide counter service or consult clients via phone or email to receive orders, and advise on pricing and job specifications; discharge orders; process payments; and other related duties.
Note

This position requires considerable physical effort including frequent standing, walking, bending, and the ability to safely lift items weighing up to 55 pounds on a daily basis.

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications
  • Post-secondary diploma in graphic arts and print production plus a minimum of three years\' experience in a print centre environment, including operation of high speed digital production devices and finishing equipment (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Demonstrated communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize jobs.
  • Experience with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Adobe Acrobat and InDesign.
Assets
  • Experience with large format printing.
