Compensation Range $4,688.67 - $6,754.00 CAD Monthly

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary

The Digital Marketing Specialist and Writer leads the content marketing strategy and web development projects for the Faculty of Medicine\xe2\x80\x99s Division of Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD) in support of the promotion of learning activities and building the division\xe2\x80\x99s brand and reputation, within UBC brand guidelines.

Receiving guidance from the Senior Manager, Administration and Communications, the Digital Marketing Specialist and Writer has a key role in in the marketing funnel \xe2\x80\x93 from gaining awareness, developing engagement opportunities, and creating a seamless registration experience for users. The Digital Marketing Specialist and Writer prepares content marketing strategies, writes, and edits compelling content, maximizes SEO, manages web projects, and measures the effectiveness of marketing and communications tactics.

Organizational Status

This position sits within the Division of Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD) of the Faculty of Medicine. Reports to the Senior Manager, Administration and Communications at UBC CPD. Works closely with senior managers from UBC CPD portfolios, external vendors, and other Faculty of Medicine departments.

A Division of the Faculty, UBC CPD provides continuing professional development for health-care professionals supporting lifelong learning and practice improvement through online courses, conferences, skills training, coaching, mentoring and more. UBC CPD is an active member of the health community with local, provincial, and national partnerships.

Work Performed

Responsible for the content and performance of UBC CPD website

Leads a content marketing strategy across multiple platforms

Maximizes web performance with best-practice SEO and UX design principles, including optimizing web copy and metadata

Prepares creative briefs, headlines and copy for digital advertising campaigns

Participates as a member of the marketing advisory group as an expert in content development and digital marketing best practices

Participates in the technology working group as the web lead

Supports the management of learner data using database, registration, and email systems

In a collaborative team, helps coordinate the editorial calendar for highlighted learning activities, web banners, blogs, testimonials, social media, and email

Works with marketing coordinator to develop strategies and deploys content marketing tactics across digital platforms

Prepare web audits and develops searchable and shareable content

Writes and edits blog posts, email, and social media copy in adherence to the UBC Style Guide

Edits and advises on the content of others in the creation of online content

Develops, manages, and adheres to a detailed copy and visual style guide.

Crafts written guidelines for style templates (course descriptions, program pages, bios, etc.)

Creates and deploys training to UBC CPD staff on effective copywriting and storytelling

Provides mentorship of UBC CPD marketing team as it relates to writing for social media posts, emails, and digital advertising

Coordinates with UBC Communications & Marketing, the Faculty of Medicine Office of Creative & Communications, and other third-party partners to support the promotion of UBC CPD projects

In partnership with Digital Solutions team, develops cost projections for ongoing web maintenance, hosting contracts and digital advertising campaigns

Undertakes special projects and campaigns in keeping with the mandate of the position

The work of the Digital Marketing Specialist and Writer directly impacts the achievement of registration goals and brand awareness of UBC CPD.

Supervision Received

Takes overall direction from the Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications, but works with a high degree of independence to plan, prioritize, and execute marketing and communications tasks. Collaborates collegially with other UBC CPD staff.

Supervision Given

May occasionally supervise student staff engaged in marketing and communications projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Diploma in Marketing. Minimum of one year of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

The work of the Digital Marketing Specialist and Writer requires analytical, technical and excellent writing skills to implement digital marketing strategies and manage website performance, requiring:

Solid understanding of brand and growth marketing strategies

Experience deploying content marketing tactics across multiple digital channels

Experience working in HTML and back-end digital interfaces

Ability to prepare campaign data using web analytics, advertising metrics (like CTR and CPC) and social media performance reports to analyze campaign performance

Strong documentation and data management principles, including experience managing CRM data

Certification in SEO, Google Advertising or digital marketing

Familiarity with Google Ads and Facebook Business advertising platforms

High level skill with computer applications relevant to marketing functions is required (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office suite and website-management applications).

Demonstrated successful project management to implement tactics across the marketing mix

Ability to problem solve and make recommendations based on data and analysis

Excellent verbal/written communication skills, with experience of writing for digital platforms, with first-hand knowledge of writing for SEO, CP Style and using brand guidelines

Ability to provide meaningful digital insight and analysis (using web, email, social media data)

Ability to understand the importance of and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in marketing and communications

Experience in a post-secondary education, continuing and professional education delivery, or health-care setting would be an asset

Preference will be given to candidates with experience using the Drupal content management interface

Preference will be given to candidates with strong working knowledge of Canadian Press Style
