Job Summary

CN is a leading North American transportation and logistics company. We transport more than C$250 billion worth of goods annually for a wide range of business sectors, ranging from resource products to manufactured products to consumer goods, across a rail network of approximately 18,600 route-miles spanning Canada and mid-America.

We are seeking an experienced Digital Design Specialist with proven expertise in digital and traditional media who will thrive in a fast-paced environment. Your passion for quality work and all things creative is complimented by a solid design skills and an exceptional focus on detail. The candidate possesses a strong eye in visual layout, composition, typography and colour and has expert knowledge of print production file preparation. Reporting to the Manager, Branding and Production and working collaboratively with all members of the team and other business departments will be key to ensuring CN\'s is consistent and well represented in all the media produced.

The Communications Hub within CN\'s Corporate Service department requires a candidate with experience and excellence in production work as well as original design - someone who understands deadlines and who can pivot quickly. Our creative team carries the principles of a design studio but functions as an in-house design shop. This role will carry a significant portion of more production-based work but requires a designer\'s mindset and creativity - the best of both worlds.

Produce professional and compelling design for the Company

  • Conceptualize high-quality visuals that effectively demonstrate campaign strategy through various channels
  • Collaborate directly with partners to develop high quality visuals that include internal media, marketing collateral, event themes and online assets
  • Produce and maintain design templates for each channel, and share these tools with external suppliers
  • Produce and evolve CN\'s icon and map library for use in deliverables such as digital presentations, campaigns, advertising and brochures
  • Possess strong project management and organizational skills while being detail oriented is a must in order to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines
Responsible for CN\'s key reports digital publishing

\xc2\xb7 Produce spread and page templates to deliver content in an easy to read and attractive layout

\xc2\xb7 Collaborate with Communication Business Partners to implement and organize content in a professional manner

\xc2\xb7 Process iterations of feedback revision and creating final designs for both digital and print publishing

\xc2\xb7 Review and proof designs to ensure that colour, copy, layout, and dimensions conform to industry standards and requirements

\xc2\xb7 Follow the production schedule\'s timeline and workflow

\xc2\xb7 Actively research and keep up to date with the latest design trends, techniques and standards

Apply and communicate consistent brand standards
  • Offer creative and flexible design options that are on brand and accurately represent Company image and reputation
  • Maintain brand standards and effectively communicate them with internal departments and external suppliers
  • Be an expert on best-in-class tactics and keep abreast of competitor creative
  • Review and offer feedback on creatives produced by CN stakeholders and partners regarding creative, liaise with external suppliers for brand alignment

Experience

Relevant work experience

\xc2\xb7 7+ years hands-on contribution in the areas of digital, print, event tradeshows, interactive presentations, and storyboarding.

\xc2\xb7 Creative thinker and self-starter with high attention to detail and relationship management skills

\xc2\xb7 Provide a maximum of 10 portfolio samples, PDF format or web link is preferred

Education/Certification/Designation

\xc2\xb7 Degree (DEC or higher) in Fine Arts or Graphic Design.

Competencies

\xc2\xb7 Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented and able to maintain brand consistency

\xc2\xb7 Ability to work under the pressure of tight timelines and rise to creative challenges under tight deadlines

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of industry leading trends in new software technology and 3rd party solutions

Technical Skills/Knowledge

\xc2\xb7 PC and Mac environment

\xc2\xb7 Adobe Creative Cloud (required): InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat DC

\xc2\xb7 Microsoft Office 365; Word, Excel and Outlook, strong PowerPoint skills are essential
