OUR CENTRE

Gledhill Avenue Child Care Centre (GACCC) is a non-profit child care centre that has serviced the local East York community since 1989. We are located within a TDSB elementary school, Gledhill Junior Public School. Our centre is licensed for 166 children. We operate a full-day, year-round Preschool Program, and Kindergarten and School Age Before and After School Programs as well as Full-Day programs during summer and breaks.

POSITION



We are seeking a

Part-Time Dietary Manager

to support the smooth operation of our kitchen and food service. This is a

temporary contract covering a medical leave, ending December 31, 2025

.

The Dietary Manager ensures the provision of nutritious meals, maintains compliance with Toronto Public Health, CCEYA O. Reg. 137/15, and GACCC policies, and supports the overall child care program as needed.

Candidates must be available during Centre operating hours of 7:00am-6:00pm. While this position is primarily a day-shift role, split shifts may also be required on occasion.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in food preparation, food allergy awareness and prevention, knowlege of Toronto Public Health cleaning & disinfecting practices, ensuring that all dietary needs are met with the highest standards of quality and safety. This role requires maintaining compliance with food safety regulations and delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES



Catering and Food Preparation



Receive and check catered meals daily for temperature, accuracy, and substitutions. Prepare and portion snacks/lunches, including alternatives for field trips or urgent situations. Label, store, and track leftovers in accordance with safe food handling standards. Post menus and update monthly menus in Lillio for parent access. Communicate with caterering compant and Site Supervisor to resolve food service issues.

Kitchen Maintenance, Cleaning & Disinfection



Maintain an organized, safe, clean, and hygienic kitchen environment. Complete daily and monthly cleaning/disinfection, and document in cleaning logs. Inspect kitchen equipment and supplies, coordinating repairs or replacements. Cooperate with Toronto Public Health DineSafe inspections.

Child-Related Dietary Monitoring



Review and adhere to all Food Allergy and Restrictions Lists, Individual Medical Plans, and ISPs. Ensure meals for children with allergies or restrictions are accurate and safe. Maintain communication with staff, families, and Site Supervisor regarding dietary needs.

Ordering and Purchasing



Maintain 3-month supply of kitchen and cleaning items. Complete and submit supply order requests monthly. Check and unpack deliveries, submit receipts/invoices as per policy.

Program & Community Support



Support child care staff with supervision when required. Facilitate quarterly food-related activities for children (e.g. food discovery, independence, nutrition learning). Share recipes for newsletters. Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and community partners.

Centre Operations



Ensure compliance with CCEYA, Toronto Public Health, AQI, ESA, OHSA, AODA, and all other applicable guidelines. Complete administrative records (temperature checks, cleaning logs, allergy updates, etc.). Participate in emergency drills, staff meetings, and professional development.

COMPETENCIES



Strong organizational, planning, and record-keeping skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Sound judgment, adaptability, and crisis management. Professional, punctual, and responsible. Commitment to inclusive practice and sensitivity to diverse community needs. Physically able to lift up to 25 kg, bend, stoop, stand, and work outdoors as required. Flexible with scheduling and willing to support centre needs.

QUALIFICATIONS



Required:



Food Handler Certification Standard First Aid with CPR-C (Infant/Child) Clear Vulnerable Sector Check Up-to-date immunization records and TB test Grade 12 diploma or equivalent

Preferred:



Diploma in a food-related field Experience in food preparation/serving and operating a kitchen Experience in child care settings

CONTRACT & SALARY



Salary:

$25.00-$29.60 per hour (depending on qualifications/experience)

Contract:

Temporary, part-time contract until December 31, 2025

Hours:

Vary depending on Centre needs. Must be available Monday-Friday, between 7:00am-6:00pm
