To perform assigned duties by providing food service to residents, guests and all care teams and maintain cleanliness within the Dietary Department. All related duties to be in harmony with our Mission Statement and in recognition of ever changing needs of long term care in our home. Team members will work in co- operation with care teams in providing care to residents. They will maintain good public relations including confidentiality and respect the resident's right to privacy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares food items for resident's meals such as cereal, juices, special drinks, toast, tea & coffee
Serves meals from kitchen to independent residents and to nursing for dependent residents
Recognizes residents' food allergies, likes and dislikes and serves meals accordingly
Uses appropriate portion control methods when serving meals to ensure residents' individual dietary requirements are met
Assists residents with cutting food, opening packages etc. when necessary
Operates the dishwasher, strip trays, scrape, stack and wash dishes
Collects dishes and trays from dining areas, cleans tables and sets up for next meal service
Responsible for the safe operation and sanitizing of equipment, work surfaces and utensils used within the department. Report malfunctioning of equipment to Food Service Manager and to Maintenance Supervisor by requisition
Follows daily cleaning schedule as prepared by Food Service Manager
Cleans, maintain organization and stock within the kitchen, freezer, walk in fridges, and dry storage rooms
Empties garbage bins and remove to designated area
Receives, checks and stores food items delivered. Refills and rotates food items as required
Peels potatoes as required per menu
Prepares supper and ensures adequate temperatures are reached for service
Practices all safety and sanitation rules and regulations as outlined in the Food
Safety Code of Practice For Canada's Foodservice Industry
Participates in the catering of special functions as directed by the Food Service
Manager
Demonstrates knowledge of and conducts his/her work according to the nursing home's policies and procedures
Attends departmental meetings and education sessions as required
Checks temperatures of fridges & freezers in dining room & kitchen and records on monthly audit report
Assists in orientation of new team members
Supports the learning experience of students
Maintains and co-operates with facility Policies and Procedures, Fire &
Emergency plan, WHMIS, Infection Control, Occupational Health & SafetyActs and any other plans that may be required by the home
Participates in meetings/programs, in-services, quality improvement programs, department and interdepartmental meetings
Able to work as a team or independently following and observing all safety rules and regulations, reporting concerns to supervisor in writing
Follows dress code policy on all shifts
Maintains a safe environment for residents and others by removing or correcting possible sources of injury, i.e. pick up food and other objects from the floor and wipe up spills
NOTE:
These duties are basic and prime duties of the position; related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as they become necessary for the operation of the department. Major changes from normal job duties will be subject to discussion with employees and brought before Labour Management before becoming a permanent responsibility of the position

QUALIFICATIONS
Previous work experience in food handling required
Grade 12 education
Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions without constant supervision
Physically able to perform duties (medium to heavy lifting) and completion of assigned duties within allotted time. Medical certificate required
Able to withstand seasonal temperatures
Good previous work and attendance record
