Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH) is an 84 bed hospital located in Collingwood, Ontario (approximately 90 minutes north of Toronto) that serves more than 74,000 permanent residents and 3.5 Million annual visitors to the communities of Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Clearview and the Blue Mountains. CGMH is an acute care hospital providing emergency care, diagnostic services including lab, imaging and cardio respiratory therapy, as well as two inpatient units (medicine and surgery). In addition, CGMH also provides care in specialty areas including obstetrics, orthopaedics, intensive care and surgery. The Opportunity:
Performs a variety of kitchen duties which include meal tray assembly, dishwashing, tray finishing/ delivery to patient's bedside, nourishment delivery, handling of incoming groceries, filling, and vending machines. Light food preparation and housekeeping is involved. The Dietary Aide role is multi-faceted, it involves being versatile and able to competently step in and do any of the routines. Major responsibilities include the provision of excellent customer service (good communication skills essential), being well-organized and efficient in the execution of daily tasks and demonstrating exemplary standards of sanitation both in the work area and personally. Must be effective team player who can also work independently and responsibly in the assigned area.
Qualifications:
TrainCan Food Safety Training and Certification (Basic).
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
Must strive to continuously provide a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff, physicians, and volunteers.
Must adhere to the duties of workers, as stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Must have an ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) in the English language in order to provide excellent communication with team members, patients and families. Ability to communicate in additional language(s) is considered an asset.
Must have basic computer skills.
Must be dedicated to professional growth & development.
Must be able to perform all bona fide and essential duties of the position, which may include physical demands such as moving/transferring patients, pushing, pulling, bending, etc.
Must have demonstrated excellent attendance/performance record.
Excellent organization and prioritization skills
Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with other members of the health care team.
Preferred
Previous experience and/or training in food preparation/handling and sanitation in a food service setting is an asset.
Knowledge of therapeutic diets an asset.
1 year food service experience in a hospital or long-term care setting preferred.
Computer knowledge is an asset.
Ability to do heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, repetitive motions, and standing for long periods of time.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrates a practical knowledge of therapeutic diets to assemble trays.
Serves on tray assembly line(s) as required.
Delivers meal trays to the patient's bedside. Picks up frequent voice messages and accommodates special meal tray (i.e. late) requests.
Dishwashing: picks up all loaded patient tray carts after meals and brings to dish room. Processes tableware through the dishwasher using racks and following standardized loading procedures. Ensures all tableware is clean and ready for next meal. Operates and maintains the dish machine properly following standardized procedures. Handles clean tableware correctly so as not to re-contaminate and maintains ample supplies on hand for use. Rolls cutlery bundles.
Light food preparation. Stores food properly to avoid wastage.
May be serving food to staff, volunteers, physicians, and visitors in the Cafeteria at lunch time. Completes and serves catering after Cafeteria closed.
Maintains a clean, sanitary work area at all times.
Reports any job-related hazards or incidents immediately to Supervisor/Manager.
Adhere to Patient and Occupational Health & Safety responsibilities.
Works independently under occasional supervision. Always exhibits good customer service skills and demonstrates being a team player. Reports any problems to Manager on duty.
Complies with established policies and procedures of the Hospital.
Responsible for living the hospital's vision as it pertains to demonstrating respect for others in the workplace, being accountable for one's actions and results, and showing innovation. (goes beyond what is expected and explores and finds ways to make things better, etc.)

Hours of Work:
Days, evenings, weekends. Please be reminded that as a Hospital, in order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7. Therefore, depending on the program for which you are applying, it may be an expectation that you are available to work weekdays and weekends, as well as all shifts - days, evenings, and nights. Regularly scheduled for up to 24 hours per week (48/pay).
