We are seeking a skilled Developmental Support Instructor to join a in home program in Hamilton. This is a long term Independent Service Provider position, supporting an adult man with Autism.
The Developmental Support Instructor will work one-on-one with the client. The program focuses on teaching Communication Skills, Social Skills, Community Skills, Academics, Life Skills, Self Care Skills (cooking, cleaning, toileting, dressing and bathing) They use an Augmentative Communication Device with Proloquo2Go. They are eager to learn and to go on community outings.
Hours are 18 -22.5 a week, 3 days a week. Shifts are 7-8 hours a day. Can choose between Tuesday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. $25.50 - $27.00 per hour. Paid training.
Responsibilities
? Delivering one-on-one support in the home and in community settings
? Active participation, supporting and engaging with the client during frequent community outings, such as walks, trips to parks, libraries, malls, grocery shopping, pools, water parks and zoos etc. Able to support and encourage client to interact with people in the community
? Follow prescribed programs, recording data and asking for clarification when needed
? Preparing and organizing the teaching materials and learning environment
? Monitoring progress and effectiveness of programs, documenting treatment notes
? Assessing and maintaining the client's abilities and skills on a regular basis
Education and Qualifications
? Preferred Education - Graduate or a student working towards a College Diploma or University Degree in a related field. (Autism and Behavioral Science Certificate, Registered Behavior Technician, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Teacher Education Program, Speech Language Therapist, Developmental Support Worker, Personal Support Worker)
? Previous experience supporting and teaching adults on the Autism Spectrum preferred
? Aptitude for working with people on the Autism Spectrum - good judgement, problem solving skills, excellent communication skills, reliable, creative, energetic, with a positive attitude
? Able to work independently prepare and conduct teaching sessions
? Experience using Augmentative Communication such as Proloque2go would be an asset (Training provided)
? Fluent and speaks English clearly
? A Valid Driver's license, with clear drivers' abstract and access to a reliable and insured vehicle is an asset. Location is easily accessible by public transit.
? Will have or will get a valid Vulnerable Sectors Police Check and Standard First Aid with CPR
