Statement of Qualifications
The Indigenous Governance Program at Yukon University is looking for its next generation of faculty members. This unique program, co-produced with Yukon First Nations, builds on the Yukon First Nations\' achievements with modern treaties, self-government agreements and relations with municipal, territorial, and federal governments. Faculty members in the program, including this position, will teach courses and mentor students on their journey to achieving their academic goals. Developmental faculty will also conduct research and contribute professionally to the development of public awareness of Indigenous governance and administration in the Yukon and beyond. Yukon University is committed to recruiting and supporting Yukon Indigenous people to serve in these and other positions at the university. First Nations individuals with strong ties to their community, a deep interest in Indigenous governance, and a desire to teach and do research at the first university in Canada north of the 60th parallel will find these posts particularly attractive. The university is determined to recruit a dynamic, energetic, and committed individuals to this position. Our search is not limited to individuals who currently hold a PhD (or equivalent) in governance and administration. Individuals who do not currently possess a graduate degree will be supported by Yukon University in starting and completing their advanced studies. The graduate work, likely toward a PhD in a governance-related academic field, will be completed in the Yukon, with several extended periods in residence outside the territory. As the successful candidate, you will will have a reduced university teaching and administrative duties while you complete your degree and assume your faculty responsibilities. Yukon University will hire one Indigenous Governance faculty member in 2023, with additional hires currently scheduled for 2024 and 2025. This schedule could be accelerated if suitable candidates are identified. The first faculty member hired will be appointed effective 1 September 2023.
