Development Officer, Grants And Partnerships

Hamilton, ON, CA, Canada

Job Description

Situated on the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas, the Art Gallery of Hamilton is one of Canada's longest-running arts organizations and has grown, changed and developed along with the many communities it serves. The Gallery delivers exhibitions accompanied by a range of programs and activities geared to encourage access, promote education, and inspire discussion among increasingly diverse audiences both in the immediate region and beyond. Our current and projected exhibition program foregrounds a diverse representation of art and artists from the region. We encourage global conversations by situating regional practices within broader social, cultural and political discussions.

We are proud of the work we are engaged in and recognize that the work continues. We are organizationally committed to improving equity both within our institution and across our sector. We encourage applicants from all equity-seeking communities to apply, with priority given to Black, Indigenous, and people of colour, recognizing that both lived and learned experiences will inform the success of this role.

As a key member of a small team the Development Officer has a specialized focus on grants, government relations, and foundations. This multifaceted role involves identifying and cultivating new sources of funding, building and stewarding relationships with key stakeholders, and supporting the delivery of high-impact proposals aligned with AGH's strategic priorities.

With strong collaboration across departments, the Development Officer leads prospect research, prepares proposals, and ensures seamless stewardship and recognition of partners, donors, and sponsors. The role also supports the President & CEO's office in government correspondence and event participation, while keeping the team informed about sector developments and funding deadlines.

In addition, the Development Officer plays an active role in the planning and execution of special events, including the AGH Annual Gala, and provides administrative support through database management, financial coordination, and report generation.

The ideal candidate will bring 3-5 years of experience in a development environment, ideally in the cultural, non-profit sector. The ideal candidate will have strong grant writing and research experience and will be a passionate individual that can advocate for the arts with a natural inclination for community engagement and outreach.

The role is full-time (35 hours per week) Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and evening shifts; predominantly on-site but with the option to work remote when needed. Salary range for this role will be between $45,000 and $49,000 based on experience and includes competitive benefits and paid time off.

Interested applicants can email a cover letter and complete resume to hr@artgalleryofhamilton.com prior to the application deadline of Thursday, July 31st 2025. We encourage applications from all qualified individuals; however, only those under consideration will be contacted.

As an equal opportunity employer, we are committed to establishing a qualified workforce that is reflective of the diverse population we serve. The Art Gallery of Hamilton is committed to providing accommodations throughout the recruitment process. If you require accommodation, please notify us and we will work with you to meet your needs.
