Job Description

The City of Corner Brook is presently accepting applications for the full-time temporary unionized position of Development Inspector II. The Development Inspector II reports to the Manager of Planning and Development or designate and is responsible for providing intermediate technical and regulatory services as they pertain to construction and development activities ongoing within the City. The Development Inspector II provides support to the Development Inspectors I and III.

As the Development Inspector II you will be expected to perform these key responsibilities:

? Review residential building plans and specifications for compliance with applicable sections of the National Building Code of Canada and City regulations

? Enforcing the City's development and subdivision regulations in conjunction with the City's acts and policies

? Receiving and reviewing applications of proposed developments for compliance with the City's development regulations

? Carrying out field inspections related to development applications for conformance with the City's development regulations

? Processing and issuing residential building permits, development permits, and occupancy permits

? Researching, compiling, and processing information for the issuance of various letters, approvals, and requests pertaining to development and planning regulations

? Is familiar and capable in the operation of an engineer's level and has the ability to set grades and obtain data in the field as the need occurs.

? Providing information and assistance to other City staff and the public with respect to development and planning regulations

? Ensuring the safe operation of equipment used to carry out respective jobs and report unsafe acts/conditions to the supervisor

? Carrying out all job-related duties in accordance with OH&S Regulations

The above duties are representative of the job description, but not all-inclusive.

The successful applicant will hold a degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Architectural Technology, complemented by a minimum of four years of relevant experience in municipal planning and development, building construction, and by-law compliance. They will have successfully completed formal training in Part 9 of the National Building Code of Canada and will demonstrate strong proficiency in computer applications as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A valid Class 5 driver's license issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador is also required.
