Tourism Squamish is hiring a
Destination Steward Program Supervisor
to lead our seasonal summer team that plays a vital role in promoting safe, respectful, and sustainable recreation in our region. You'll spend your days outside at popular local destinations, mentoring stewards, offering trip planning advice, distributing Red Bags, and modelling responsible recreation behaviours.
Whether you're suggesting a hidden gem for lunch, sharing trail conditions, handing out garbage bags, or reporting on site usage, you'll help protect the places we love--while making a real impact in our community.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Supervisor plays a leadership role in the Destination Steward team, providing on-the-ground guidance, visitor education, and field coordination. You'll work directly alongside stewards in Squamish's busiest outdoor spaces while ensuring the program runs smoothly and professionally.
Daily Tasks & Duties:.
Team Leadership & Field Operations
Support, guide, and mentor Destination Stewards in their daily duties
Coordinate staff schedules and site coverage to ensure strong team presence
Provide real-time feedback and help manage field issues or conflicts
Maintain a positive, safe, and respectful team environment
Visitor Engagement & Education
Greet and assist visitors with local tips, directions, and trail updates
Offer recommendations on activities, businesses, and alternative routes
Promote safe outdoor behaviour and share Leave No Trace practices
Distribute Red Bags and explain the Red Bag Program to encourage business engagement and community care
Stewardship & Site Cleanliness
Lead site monitoring and support clean-up efforts at high-traffic areas
Hand out garbage bags to encourage pack-it-in, pack-it-out practices
Monitor recreation zones and report maintenance or safety concerns
Promote stewardship by directing visitors to signage, trailhead rules, and waste facilities
Observation & Reporting
Record daily observations and visitor interactions using field tools
Upload reports and share patterns or recurring issues with the Program Manager
Maintain equipment including e-bikes, tablets, signage, and stewardship supplies
Assist with onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training sessions
Team Collaboration & Communication
Communicate regularly with your Program Coordinator and fellow stewards.
Maintain stewardship equipment, including e-bikes, radios, tablets, and signage.
Respond to field issues with calm, respectful professionalism.
Skills & Abilities:
Record daily observations and visitor interactions using field tools
Upload reports and share patterns or recurring issues with the Program Manager
Maintain equipment including e-bike, tablets, signage, and stewardship supplies
Assist with onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training sessions
Required Skills, Education & Experience:
Resident of Squamish, BC
Physically able to walk or stand outdoors for up to 6 hours per day
Valid BC Driver's License with clean driver's abstract
1-3 years of leadership, coordination, or supervisory experience in a field-based, tourism, or recreation setting
1-3 years of customer service or public engagement experience
Additional certificates are an asset, but not required:
Conflict resolution training or certification
Valid First Aid certificate
To be considered for this role, applicants must:
Be a current resident of Squamish, BC
Be available for the full term of the project (June to early September)
Have previous experience working in an outdoor environment, in all weather conditions
Willing to work a schedule throughout the summer that includes weekends and holidays
Able to work 32 - 40 hours per week for the duration of the project, Mid June -end of August
Be able to represent the community, stakeholders and destination in a manner that reflects the high standards and values of Tourism Squamish
