Job Title: Design Engineer \xe2\x80\x93 Product Development Status: Exempt Division/Location: DeZURIK: Cambridge Department: Product Development Reports to: Engineering Manager GENERAL SUMMARY Design Engineers must interpret specifications based on the level of documentation required. They must process projects efficiently through design, bill of materials and process & routing to ensure a quality, manufacturable product that is delivered on time. Design Engineers are required to provide technical assistance on products to all departments, plants and customers. They are responsible for the co-ordination of designs with the various departments. This position provides backup support for other Designers within the department, as required. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS) - Design simple and/or complex valves and/or accessories - Provide new complex designs or design changes based on modifications to standard DeZURIK products - Create bills of material for valve design projects and load BOM into Baan, as required - Contact vendors for technical data on purchased components - Create vendor specifications as required - Perform design calculations and various analyses to ensure product is safe, functional and compliant to engineering and all other applicable standards - Liaise with manufacturing and purchasing - Assist other members of the department, as required - Where required, help find existing similar specials to ensure that the design is feasible to manufacture - Troubleshoot manufacturing problems - Direct draftspersons in the creation of drawings and approve completed drawings - Follow all DeZURIK safety standards - Follow all rules and regulations included in the DeZURIK Employee Handbook - Report any hazards, near-misses or incidents that you notice or are involved in - Determine and discuss with supervisor any potential process improvements - Shared responsibility for demonstrating professionalism and respect for all employees of DeZURIK - Participate and provide assistance with the annual physical inventory count - Other duties as assigned EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - P. Eng. Designation (or working towards designation) - Proficient in 3D modeling software (SolidWorks preferred, SolidWorks Simulation is an asset) to create and manipulate models, assemblies and drawings. - Experience in the design of valves and/or other types of pressure retaining equipment is an asset - Knowledge of fluid power systems, instrumentation, basic electronics is an asset - High degree of math skills including geometry and trigonometry - Good understanding of manufacturing (machining, casting and welding) practices and processes - Must be able to prioritize and manage several projects at one time and process them based on the due date - Must assume responsibility for accuracy of all new engineering documents - Ability to handle a heavy work load and process orders on time while maintaining quality standards - Research and layout a product - Computer literate: Microsoft Excel, Word - Previous experience with an ERP system (3 Years) - Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with people at all levels of business - Attention to detail with high degree of accuracy - Excellent organizational skills - Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment - Excellent time management skills - Excellent problem-solving skills (with minimal supervision) - Excellent personal discipline and work ethic with respect to time and attendance - A positive "let\'s do it" attitude - Ability to work in and contribute to a team building environment PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Normal office demands with occasional extended hours.
