Role Summary

Responsible for design and development of electrified powertrain components, assemblies & integrated modules. This will include various EV, Hybrid and traditional transmission components and subsystems. Must be able to interface with several Magna Powertrain Divisions and Tier 2 suppliers in overall design activities. Will be required to communicate with the end customer as necessary to meet all project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop new mechatronic product designs from initial concepts up to detail/final drawings.
- Part proposal drawing: starting from rough design concepts up to detail / final drawings
- Responsible for all drawing information including tolerance / fits, GD&T specifications, dimensional stacks and surface finishes.
- Carries out the design and development required to achieve project objective within budget.
- Processes new job for quotation and prepares all design and development information for APQP process.
- Specifies requests and coordinates all sub-contracted work (i.e. FEAs, product validation and testing, CAD drawing file conversion) and assures timely completion.
- Undertakes and records detailed tolerance stacks necessary to support the design of robust and reliable products.
- Develops and maintains part interim stage drawings.
- Supports testing department by specifying test requirements and ensuring tests are completed to specification.
- Participates in APQP meetings and is fundamentally involved in the DFMEA creation.
- Attends meetings with customers, with respect to design / launch reviews.
- Responsible for activities related to assigned projects, as per QS-9000/TS 16949 procedures (i.e. APQP, Design FMEAs).
- Prepare and work to schedules with interim and end target estimates for all projects within his / her responsibility.
- Contacts sub-contractors and Tier II vendors to coordinate overall design of components and assemblies.
- Prepares reports when requested.
- Ensures all meetings are captured through minutes, minutes are distributed and filed accordingly.
- Maintains proper filing systems to ensure all information (electronic or hard copy) is properly stored and easily retrieved.
- Initiates plans and ideas for cost reduction and / or quality improvement measures.
- Responsible for all pertinent drawings and parts list.
- Maintains and updates CAD files library.
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities within the Engineering Department, if required by the Sr. Engineering Manager.
- Provides Engineering support to other departments within Magna Powertrain Metal-Forming Solutions Group as directed by the Sr. Engineering Manager.
- Follow Magna's Code of Conduct and Ethics and related compliance policies
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Key Qualifications/Requirements

- Minimum Bachelor of Science with major in engineering disciplines, preferably mechatronics or automotive engineering. Master's degree and / or international OEM / Tier One work experience an asset
- Minimum of 3 yrs experience in Automotive Mechatronic Product Development in the area of Hybrid and or EV Products
- Ability to take a leadership role in the development process - working with and directing others as necessary.
- Ability to interact effectively with customer, supplier, program management and engineering personnel.
- Experienced with CATIA. PLM / SAP integration an asset.
- Experience working with ISO26262
- Experience in automotive powertrain including hybrid and EV applications is preferred.
- Knowledge of ANSI, SAE, QS-9000/IATF16949 and other industry / customer related standards.
- Competent at completing tolerance stacks for complex components, assemblies and systems, including statistical tolerance analysis.
- Experience in automotive powertrains including hybrid and EV applications is preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of GD&T, Design for Manufacturing, VA/VE, Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA). Competent at completing tolerance stacks for complex components, assemblies and systems. Analysis utilizing VSA tool an asset.
- Blue Print reading, advanced measuring techniques, computer literate.
- Effective written and oral communication skills, strong organizational ability.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 25% of the time
