Sobeys has an amazing opportunity to join our Real Estate Team! We\'re searching for design superstar can lead an innovate and efficient team of experts to realize our goals. In this role you\'ll be accountable for the development, management and measurement of processes, systems and department deliverables related to the design, d\xc3\xa9cor and layout of grocery retail stores. The Design Director - ONT/ATL will build, and sustainability contribute to a positive, productive and innovative work environment while maintaining trusted, strong, collaborative relationships.

As a strategic leader you will be required to be on site either in office or in stores (as required) a minimum of three (3) days per week.

Here\'s where you\'ll be focusing:

Design Management and Standards

  • Execute the development and maintain standard building requirements (Architectural, Mechanical, Structural, Electrical Specifications, Schedule \xe2\x80\x9cC\xe2\x80\x9d, Construction details and Fixture details)
  • Oversee the Managers of Design for each region to ensure consistency in approach and process
  • Hire a central group of in-house Store Planners flexible to work for all banners when required
  • Responsible for the creation of preliminary format store layouts defined by standard models
  • Responsible for chairing scheduled design meetings with format leads for store layout presentation and review
  • Ensure adherence to all approved design standards and documentation non-standard designs
  • Responsible to obtain format lead approval for all store layouts
  • In consultation with the Director of Construction and Project Manager execute the development of design project schedules
  • Execute the delivery of all store layouts and specification information for engineering consultants
  • Implement approved design changes into store models and design packages
Project Management
  • Responsible for the review and approval of site plans for real estate and SPA/DP approvals, Assist with municipal approval process (as required)
  • Responsible to coordinate on site visits to acquire as-built information and photography sites in order to generate or adjust as-built drawings
  • Participate in project exit review meetings for design standards oversight
  • Provide ongoing status reporting for store layout completions and KPI tracking
Process and Systems
  • Oversee store planning team and direct reports adherence and utilization of implemented processes, protocols and technical solutions
  • Consult in, develop and manage systems or process changes and enhancements to support activities following appropriate protocol
  • Identify process and technical optimization opportunities and provide solutions for implementation
Relationship Management
  • Create a coaching and development culture for all direct reports, which embraces a passion for food retail
  • Maintain collaborative and open working relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors and cross functional teams including procurement, construction, MRO and format functions
  • Provide consultative guidance, insight and expertise to cross functional teams as relates to all aspects of store design with due diligence
Department Management
  • Manage direct reports including: selection, orientation, training and development, performance management, succession planning, scheduling and compensation
  • Assign projects to design team and/ or consultants
  • Manage store planner workload schedules in line with divisional requirements
  • Participate in the setting of department policies and procedures
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment as per company requirements
What you have to offer:
  • Proficient use of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficient in recent versions of AutoCAD, REVIT, etc
  • Superior communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Strong relationship building and management skills
  • Understanding of expense and budget management
  • Advanced negotiation skills
  • Strong food retail store construction / design knowledge
  • Ability to establish rapport with others and build relationships that are beneficial in achieving work-related goals
  • Proven problem solving skills with the ability to gather and assess information, formulate and evaluate alternatives and propose a recommended solution
  • Ability to manage a variety of complex projects simultaneously
  • Advanced understanding and ability to read fixture / design layouts
  • Self-starter who will pursue specific courses of action while exhibiting high motivation, sense of urgency and can perform under stress and time constraints
  • Able to apply creative ideas and solutions when the need arises to develop a new and innovative concept
  • Excellent presentation skills (oral/ written/ PowerPoint)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of SAP
Qualifications:
  • Post secondary education and/or technology diploma in related field and / or equivalent experience
  • 10 + years related experience in design or architectural environment
  • Experience in retail and customer service environment
Prefer:
-Grocery store design experience

Knowledge of English is required, as the candidate will be expected to work closely with peers in other provinces in planning, developing and implementing processes and participating in key national strategic projects. The incumbent will also have to supervise members of her team who are based in provinces other than Qu\xc3\xa9bec.
