JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reader's Digest has an exciting opportunity for a well-rounded magazine journalist to join our international editorial team. The Deputy Editor would assign and edit feature articles that will appear in Reader's Digest in Canada, the U.S. and the international editions. You would also assist the Editor-in-Chief in planning and producing world-class content.

You understand print magazines and how they are produced. You work with top writers to produce solid, authoritative work, always with high journalistic standards. You are curious, interested in a wide variety of subjects and willing to find the best sources on any topic.

You understand what good storytelling is, and you read, listen to, and watch content across all media, with an eye and an ear for what might make a good story. You love to collaborate and are interested in building something new with colleagues around the world. You are decisive and action oriented. You love a new challenge, and crucially, always meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Pitch, plan and execute departments and feature stories for multiple editions of Reader's Digest magazine
• Stand in for the EIC as needed
• Scout strong reprints and book excerpts from Canadian sources
• Collaborate with colleagues working remotely, in Canada and abroad
• Stay on track to meet all content deadlines

• 5 years of experience working as an editor and writer for a print magazine, with at least two years in a senior role
• Knack for recognizing and creating compelling content
• Proven feature editing and assigning experience
• Experience with publishing systems such as InCopy
• Detail and deadline oriented
• Ability to work collaboratively
• A database of writers with various areas of expertise
