As an integral team member of the Deputy City Manager's and Chief Financial Officer's office, this position is responsible for ensuring the seamless delivery of Council and Committee reports for the Financial and Corporate Services Department.
What will you do?
Meet with the lead report authors to fill out the report plan, discuss areas where assistance may be needed (e.g. research, coordinating meetings, etc) and ensure interested parties (internal and external) are consulted during the writing process
Guide the development of the content, style,and tone of each report based on a comprehensive understanding of the function and operational integration of each program area and across other departments as it relates to corporate and Council directives
Provide input/feedback regarding report strategy and approaches, based on knowledge of the department's strategic plan as it pertains to an understanding of Council's agenda and awareness of the political climate
Synthesize highly complex, technical information and translate it into "plain language"
Work with branches to ensure reports are submitted to the Clerk's Office by the deadline
Maintain close and collaborative working relationships with branches and section within the department, as well as other departments and the City Manager's Office, to mitigate reporting issues including barriers to meeting timelines
Ensure all Financial and Corporate Services reports are written to meet corporate report guidelines
Lead the development of presentations and associated materials, technical briefings and speaking notes
Review of other department reports and flag linkages within the FCS department for internal review
Identify areas of improvement, both qualitative and quantitative through the report process
Liaise with other report writers, coordinators and other collaborators and leadership teams, as appropriate, to identify and champion opportunities for improvement related to the timeliness, transparency, integration, accuracy
Provide review and editing support for other department communications or strategic documents
Support the department with a variety of program/project work, including conceptualizing, developing, reporting, monitoring and implementation
Qualifications
:University Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration or a related field
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a large diverse and complex organization
Experience engaging, communicating, influencing and collaborating, both verbal and written, with all levels of staff
Experience in the developing and writing of reports, based on highly complex operating, financial, legal and other technical information, and presenting such information in a manner that is easily consumed by the general public
Assets:
Ability to research, analyze and synthesize complex data and information to write reports and draft recommendations that are understandable to a broad audience in a way that supports informed decision making
Experience working in the public sector and understanding of Council and committee process

Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
