General Description:





The Fisheries Department is seeking motivated and reliable deckhands to join our team on one of our community-owned vessels. Reporting to the Captain, deckhands are responsible for supporting all aspects of lobster harvesting operations, including setting and retrieving traps, baiting gear, sorting catch, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the vessel. The deckhands will be fishing in Lobster Fishing Area 34. (multiple positions)

Responsibilities:




Must perform all duties and responsibilities of a deckhand as designated by the captains.

You must be physically fit and comfortable working long hours in rough weather conditions.

All Deckhands will take the time to learn appropriate techniques, coiling, catch handling methods and related responsibilities while fishing onboard the Bands designated vessel.

All deckhands will practice due diligence in maintaining their own personal safety and well-being and of their fellow crew members.

Must maintain and clean the vessel/equipment at the end of each trip before wharfing or at Captains request.

Must report any damage/malfunctions to the vessel, gear or equipment to the captains.

Must be available to work on pre-season work-up and post-season storage of vessels, gear and equipment.

Must be able to provide their own form of transportation and plan for any planned departures.

Deckhands must maintain the catch, by storing, icing and unloading.

Must follow and abide by related tasks as assigned from time to time by the Fisheries Manager.

Must be dependable and punctual.

Qualifications and Experience/Skills:




Must have a valid MED certification.

Must have standard first aid.

Valid Fishing Mater or SVOP.

ROC-MC (Marine Radio License).

Experience working in Indigenous Fisheries.

Experience working in a First Nations Community is preferred.

Must have access to reliable transportation.

A criminal records check is required.
