Explorers Summer Day Camp \xe2\x80\x93 Day Camp Leaders Riley Park Hillcrest Community Association (RPHCA) is seeking energetic, enthusiastic and responsible individuals to assist in the planning and implementation of the Hillcrest Explorers Summer Day Camp program for children ages 6-12. Explorers Summer Day Camp is a supported day camp, with designated spaces reserved for campers with a disability or support needs. Working together as a team, all day camp staff and volunteers are responsible for creating an environment where every camper feels safe, included, and encouraged to have fun throughout the summer! RESPONSIBILITIES:
Rate of Pay: $18.50-$22.00 per hour (based on experience and seniority) plus 4% in lieu of benefits
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 35-40 hours per week for up to 11 weeks between June to August 2023. Must be available for the Day Camp Leader Training on June 17, 2023. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct leadership and supervision to participants aged 6-12 years old attending the Hillcrest Explorers Summer Day Camp
- Plan, organize and lead children in out-trips, sports, games, arts, crafts, music and educational activities, with consideration of adapted needs for supported campers
- Follow established risk management guidelines to ensure a safe, inclusive environment for all day camp participants, volunteers and staff
- With the support of the Project Manager, provide guidance, mentorship, supervision and constructive feedback to program volunteers
- Develop positive relationships to effectively communicate with co-workers, volunteers, parent/caretakers, and participants
- Maintain and reconcile weekly petty cash funds
- Provide first aid and complete administrative duties as required
- Minimum completion of Grade 11; some post-secondary education or training in a related field is an asset
- Previous experience volunteering or working with large groups of children, preferably in a day camp setting
- Preference given to those with experience supporting children with disabilities and behavioural challenges to be actively involved in a day camp setting
- Knowledge and ability to plan, lead, and motivate children in a range of age-appropriate recreational activities
- Proven team player, with ability to take initiative and problem solve
- Strong sense of responsibility, maturity, and a positive attitude
- Valid Standard/Emergency First Aid and CPR C certification
- Certifications in Food Safe, High Five, Play It Fair, NCCP or other related trainings are an asset
- Fluency in additional language(s) an asset
- Employment is subject to successful clearance of Police Information Check including vulnerable sector search
- This position is sponsored by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant and requires the candidate to be between the ages of 16-30 years old, be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and legally entitled to work in Canada.
