The Opportunity:



As the Database Administrator, you are responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring, maintenance and security of the databases installed at Sunwing Travel Group in MS Azure on IaaS and PaaS solutions. The role includes the development and design of database strategies, system monitoring and improving database performance and capacity, and planning for future expansion requirements as well as plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard the databases.



What You'll Do:



Manage SQL Server and Snowflake databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems. Assist in migration of SQL Server instances to Azure PaaS from Azure IaaS solutions. Investigate and resolve Database issues Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security. Test backups to ensure we can meet the business' Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end, including after-hours and weekends Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations Upgrade MS SQL Server environment to the latest versions and patches Deploy database change scripts provided by third party vendors When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes Document the company's database environment as well as operational procedures and processes. Design and write complex SQL Server scripts to automate database management tasks where possible Provide after hours On Call Support as required as you will be the person the company would call if the SQL Server service stopped working. Ensure that new database code meets company standards for readability, reliability, and performance Maintain, implement and develop reports showing usage, metrics and consumption of dba resources and suggest ways to improve performance on each Design indexes for existing applications, choosing when to add or remove indexes Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement Conduct SQL Server lunch-and-learn sessions for developers Advise developers on the most efficient database designs (tables, datatypes, stored procedures, functions, etc)

What You'll Need:



Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or 5 years of equivalent experience in the Administration of Databases on premises and in Azure. 5 years or more experience in: Tuning T-SQL queries to improve performance MS SQL Server Installation and Configuration for Stand-Alone and clustered instances Writing SSIS Packages Working with Windows Server (all versions) including Active Directory, Partitioning, Disk Configuration Architecture, SQL Server Backup and Restore concepts and with SQL Server tools Good understanding of Data Modeling, RDBMS Concepts, Cloud Data Warehouse Concepts Experience with and/or good understanding of Azure Analysis Services, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Dedicated SQL Pool and Snowflake Be an effective team player, with ability to be flexible and adaptable when dealing with change Able to juggle multiple tasks, tight deadlines and changing priorities. Strong communication and relationship building skills.
