The position:

We need a database administrator to join our team. As a Database Administrator you will be responsible for performing a variety of system and database administration tasks with a focus of maintaining our current database infrastructure and continually improving the scalability and reliability of our systems. We use the latest Microsoft technologies, such as Entity Framework and SQL Server and we host on AWS.

The candidate:

We are seeking candidates from a strong intermediate to senior range.

The ideal candidate has:

• a passion for databases
• proven ability to analyze and improve query performance
• experience with disaster recovery and high availability
• an ability to communicate with stakeholders on business requirements

Additionally, as a senior candidate you have:

• demonstrated leadership in improving technical quality within a team or organization
• experience in mentoring and guiding team members towards improved database related development practices
• knowledge of alternate cloud-based database solutions

Our office is located inside the Atlantic Avenue Art Block, directly above Bite Groceteria and Caf\xc3\xa9 Gravity. Located in the vibrant community of Inglewood, an historic area home to many restaurants, shops and art & culture venues. Just minutes away from downtown Calgary but able to skip the downtown traffic.

Key responsibilities:

• Actively monitor the performance and stability of all the production and internal database infrastructure
• Use analytical skills to anticipate future problems and resolve them effectively
• Must Haves:
• Post-secondary certification
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Experience with design and administration of relational databases (SQL Server preferred)
• Experience creating and maintaining database indexes
• Strong database architecture abilities, including designing for performance, scalability and disaster recovery
• Hands-on experience with large data sets and associated scalability challenges
• Working knowledge of query optimization strategies and database performance tuning
• Logical approach to problems and the ability to break them down into manageable tasks
• Experience with Object Relational Mappers such as Entity Framework

Nice to Haves:

• Experience with cloud based database solutions
• Understanding of SaaS infrastructure and operational best practices

You must be able to provide proof of legal authorization to work in Canada and for Absorb Software out of the Calgary office.
