Purpose of Job:

The Data Visualization Specialist responsible for oversight, maintenance and governance of the different systems used to analyze vast amounts of data from different sources, and deploy interactive, infographic visualizations & dashboards to sales and senior management. The DVS will provide subject matter expertise to management on opportunities and options for technical solutions to business problems, as well as train and develop the Sales Reporting & Analytics Team to administer system settings, develop front-end user interfaces, and design eye-popping infographic data visualizations. The DVS will assist the Director in overseeing data governance of Sales Reporting. The DVS will support new business activities to increase sales quality of output through a digital strategy that encompasses analytics and reporting as well as business process improvement.
Major Accountabilities:

1. Digital Strategy

  • Act as subject matter expert with Excel, Access, MicroStrategy, SQL, Salesforce, Broadridge, Power BI, Tableau, and Oracle on Demand
  • Work with the Director and Strategic Alliances team to formulate ideas and plans for the creation and use of technology to facilitate business objectives of increasing sales quality of output and operational efficiency
  • Stay informed of technological trends and their potential application to the business
  • Stay informed of best practice in innovation and data visualization tools, with a focus on generating actionable insights within captivating dashboards and reporting
  • Advise the Director on data governance best practices and support implementation

2. Analytics & Reporting

  • Use varying data mining techniques to design and implement analytics and reporting to support various internal partners and products
  • Perform analyses to find patterns and extract useful insights, predictions or knowledge from large or varying data sets
  • Create meaningful visualizations to better communicate complicated data analyses
  • Provide subject matter expertise on systems, solutions, and reports built or supported by the team

3. Business Process and Continuous Improvement

  • Work with partner departments to identify opportunities for business improvement and develop an appropriate solution for their needs in co-operation with the Sales Reporting & Analytics team
  • Responsible for working with the Director to develop and maintain a system of training and developing colleagues within the business unit
  • Oversees the development and administration of software tools to identify the need for adding controls to new and existing business processes

4. Data Governance

  • Develop a structure and process to oversee data integrity in order to properly mine and roll up underlying data for management and sales reporting
  • Create and maintain a data dictionary to ensure new data is properly maintained, categorized and linked within existing reporting structures
  • Document all existing reports, their purposes, and end users to determine which reports are redundant, out of date, or no longer being used, to decommission them as required
  • Create a reporting map to identify how existing reports are affected by new products or business lines, and ensure new data is suppressed from reporting as required

Education/Work Experience/Designations
  • University Degree or equivalent College Diploma
  • Completion of IFIC operations and / or CSC
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant experience in an analytical or technical role (preferably in the mutual fund / financial services industry)
  • Advanced knowledge of relational databases (e.g. Microsoft Access, SQL, Progress Results)
  • Strong knowledge of analytics and statistical tools
  • Experience in agile methodologies and BPM a strong asset
  • Experience working in a research and development environment an asset
  • Knowledge of industry systems an asset (i.e. iFast, fundserv, Salesforce, MicroStrategy, Tableau, Power BI, Broadridge)
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Proven experience leading operational projects
  • Strong project management / product management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task with conflicting priorities
  • Ability to accept challenges and adapt to a changing environment
  • Bilingualism an asset (English and French)
