We are seeking a GIS / Data Management Specialist to join our team in our Guelph, Waterloos, Toronto, Cambridge, Vancouver, Saskatoon or Ottawa, Ontario office. This position requires a solid understanding of standard practices and techniques used when working with GIS projects and spatial databases. You \xc2\xadwill support and manage projects that include environmental assessments, groundwater remediation, water resources, geotechnical construction, and more.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Is this the right position to help you achieve your professional goals? Some of the key responsibilities for the GIS / Database Specialist position include:

  • Designing, developing and managing databases (e.g., in Microsoft Access, SQL Server ,and ArcGIS Geodatabase);
  • Developing automated workflows to load, organize, transform, and document tabular and spatial data in databases;
  • Producing data visualizations using ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online and Portal; and dashboard software;
  • Use and understanding of GPS for data collection;
  • Developing comprehensive workflows to automate compilation of data from multiple sources and serve data to models, maps, reports and other tools;
  • Workflow and metadata documentation, preparation of maps and exhibits using GIS data sets;
  • Understanding basic visualization procedures and creating high-quality cartographic products for client deliverables; and
  • Interacting with internal clients to support engineering and environmental projects.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE
  • Bachelor s degree in environmental Geography or related field OR from an accredited college or university in the field of science, engineering or technology. (required)
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2 years of related work experience in a similar role, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Familiarity with geoprocessing concepts.
  • Technical training and strong experience in GIS and database technology at either the undergraduate, post-graduate, or specialized college program level.
  • Experience with database management and GIS for civil and environmental engineering applications, including the ability to write complex queries, automate routine processes using scripts and generate reports (e.g., Microsoft Access, ArcGIS Geodatabase, SQL Server, ArcGIS).
  • Experience with database and GIS scripting (Python, VBA, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to write complex formulas, creating graphs and analyses, and automate routine processes.
  • Experience with cartography and map design (portfolios are welcome).
Additional skills that would be an asset include:
  • Knowledge of different web mapping platforms and GIS tools (ArcGIS Online and Portal; Survey123, ArcGIS Field Maps, Geocortex, and/or other GIS-focused field collection tools). (preferred)
  • Knowledge of server architecture and web technology. (preferred)
  • Experience with three-dimensional modeling and visualization including the process of converting, importing, and exporting the surfaces between programs. (preferred)
  • Experience with the front-end processes of collecting field data with various GPS units and the process of downloading and compiling the data. (preferred)
  • Knowledge of laboratory analytical data verification and validation processes. (preferred)
  • Knowledge of basic statistics. (preferred)
