To support new talent entering the sector we facilitate a summer internship program for students from across Canada.




What is the COVE Internship Program?



We are looking for bright, talented individuals at the post-secondary level, interested in the marine sector, who are looking to gain valuable, hands-on work experience. You will be placed with a host company in the marine sector and will be working on a core project for their business. Projects are interdisciplinary and students will be collaborating closely with other students and staff from different disciplines.





The COVE internship is a collaboration with numerous companies that are leaders in the marine and marine technology sector. We are diligent in placing students in a role with a company that is well aligned with their discipline of study, skill set, and future career ambitions. Canada's marine sector is growing and thriving and contributes millions of dollars to our national economy on an annual basis. COVE is seeking interns who are Canada's best and brightest to be part of this phenomenal growth.





Internship Eligibility:




Open to post-secondary students across all disciplines (i.e. Environmental Sciences, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Marketing and Communications, etc.) Students must be actively enrolled in a post-secondary program at the time of the summer internship Based on the required skillsets, placements are typically geared towards second-year undergraduate students and above Collaborative Self-starter Open to learning Have experience or an interest in the marine sector International students must be eligible to work in Canada and have a valid study/work permit

The Opportunity:





The Data & Project Analytics Intern at COVE will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in developing a dynamic dashboard that integrates financial performance (budgets vs. actuals), key risks, and project timelines. Working closely with senior leadership, the intern will analyze data, create visual reports, and support decision-making processes that drive operational efficiency. This role offers exposure to real-world project management challenges, financial tracking, and risk assessment within the ocean technology sector. Ideal for a data-savvy student, this internship provides a unique chance to apply analytical skills in a fast-paced, innovative environment.




What you will be doing:



The student will report to the Vice President of Growth. Duties for this position will include, but are not limited to:



1. Dashboard Development & Data Visualization


Design and build a user-friendly dashboard for key stakeholders in the Program Departments. Utilize tools like Excel, Power BI, or other visualization tools for data visualization. Ensure real-time or periodic updates to keep information current and actionable. Report financial tracking in the dashboard, collecting financial data, budget to actual variances, and illustrating when corrective actions are required. Incorporate a system to track and categorize key project risks and their impacts in the dashboard for proactive decision-making. Create visual reports to highlight progress, delays, and resource constraints. Work with key stakeholders and leadership teams to refine dashboard requirements. Prepare summary reports and insights to support dashboards. Identify opportunities to enhance data collection and reporting processes. Document methodologies, assumptions, and procedures for future use. Provide training or guidelines for team members using the dashboard.
2. Financial Planning & Analysis


Working with the finance team to model budget and financial models for monthly, quarterly and annual analysis. Conducting internal control process reviews to evaluate the system of internal controls, effectiveness in mitigating risks, ensuring accurate financial reporting and promoting operational efficiencies. Documenting processes through standard operating procedures. Assist finance team with data collection and grouping for new ERP migration. Finance team support for data inputs in accounts payable and receivable for vacation coverage.

Computer Science, Business, Finance Student

Data Analysis & Visualization

- Experience with Excel (PivotTables, etc.), Power BI, visualization tools for data visualization.

Financial Acumen

- Basic understanding of budgets, financial reporting, and variance analysis.

Attention to Detail

- Ensuring precision in financial tracking, risk assessments, and timelines.

Communication & Collaboration

- Ability to work with finance, project teams, and leadership to gather requirements and present findings.

Problem-Solving

- Proactively identifying issues and proposing data-driven solutions.

Self-Motivation & Initiative

- Willingness to take ownership of tasks and improve dashboard functionality over time.

Confidentiality - Ability to handle sensitive financial, strategic, and project-related information with discretion and integrity
