Michelin North America (Canada) Inc., which employs 3500 people and operates three tire manufacturing facilities in Nova Scotia, is seeking a Data Engineer/Developer to join its Granton, Nova Scotia manufacturing team in Pictou County.

The Data Engineer/Developer builds data warehouses using structured schemas and hierarchical based systems, and designs, develops and updates applications using SQL to support business needs. These digital innovations and initiatives will support Michelin's transition to industry 4.0 and directly contribute to achieving the organization's strategic goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform data engineering functions for a large SQL data repositories;
  • use data analytic tools Power BI and Microstrategy to create data views to heterogenous data;
  • revise existing and create new applications using OOP languages such as Java and VB.NET as well as SQL;
  • develop and implement strategy for replacing obsolete applications;
  • provide technical support and perform end-user training;
  • create and manage source code documentation;
  • perform source code versioning; and,
  • support legacy apps developed in Microsoft Access and Microsoft Foxpro.
Requirements:
  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Science, Engineering or equivalent professional experience in programming or development;
  • minimum 1-3 years of demonstrated experience with software development;
  • application creation and deployment, database management and networking,
  • demonstrated experience developing applications using OOP languages (PHP, JAVA, C++, VB.NET);
  • demonstrated experience developing SQL-based applications including working knowledge of SQL databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL. Proficiency querying SQL databases;
  • demonstrated ability to write clean, well-documented code;
  • proven ability to administer well-documented source code repository; and,
  • familiarity using IT Problem and Change Management systems such as Remedy, Maximo, JIRA, and ServiceNow.
Assets include:
  • Experience developing data warehouse applications in Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS,
  • experience using Microsoft Visual Studio,
  • familiarity with code versioning tools,
  • mechanical knowledge and/or a maintenance background, and,
  • experience working in an industrial environment.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate the following:
  • strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills,
  • both written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop positive relationships with internal plant customers,
  • proven teamwork, interpersonal, leadership and planning skills, and,
  • an aptitude and desire for learning new technology.
