In the role, you will be responsible for the development of new, and the maintenance of existing, data processes that lie at the heart of our organization. Working closely with internal subject matter experts, the Data Services team expands and enhances geoLOGIC’s data offerings. The team also handles day-to-day operational support to ensure that data continues to flow through our systems and provides tier-three support for clients. This leads to a fast-paced environment with lots of variety. The Data Services team is responsible for:

  • Development and maintenance of geoLOGIC’s client-facing Oracle Database – gDC
  • Development of our quality assurance system for all our internal ETL processes
    • Using standard and custom ETL frameworks
    • C#, Oracle, SQL Server, PL/SQL, and Python among other technologies
  • Automated processes to consume data from external sources
  • Performing data analysis for other departments and clients as required
  • Feeding data to multiple first-party commercial software products
  • Consolidation of data processes to gain efficiencies

To succeed in this role, you must have a strong team focus, and a self-motivated drive for producing excellent data solutions. Having a passion to learn and work with new data, and the ability to quickly context-switch and multi-task is very important. You thrive being part of a collaborative environment and can work with both technical and non-technical business groups. Being able to work towards customer-centric solutions is imperative. The ideal candidate has experience with the software development cycle, has a good understanding of ETL processes without being constrained to out-of-the box solutions, and is comfortable not just creating, but also maintaining existing systems. Experience of doing so with PL/SQL in Oracle and SQL Server would be advantageous. As a member of the team, the Data Developer will be expected to work with senior data developers to assist in projects and be an active participant in their implementation.
Relationships:
Reporting to the Data Services Manager, this position involves close connections within a team of diverse talents, ranging from Sr Developers, DBA to GIS specialist to .NET developers. Outside of the immediate team, there will interactions with data subject matter experts to help guide data offerings, as well as members of our Product Development, Data Acquisition and Data Production teams.
How will you spend your day?
  • Assist in the development of critical projects both in terms of operational and product roadmap requirements
  • Work with new and existing data to analyze and explain the meaning of data to other members and departments
  • Assist in the ETL processes within distributed Oracle and SQL Server environments
  • Troubleshoot operational issues both in ETL and the Data Entry Shell
  • Collaborate with team members to provide data solutions which align with our customers’ needs
  • Work closely with the data team to ensure the Data Entry Shell meets their requirements
  • Support an internal application built in .NET for data entry called the Data Entry Shell

Ready to Apply? Here’s what we’re looking for:
  • 5+ years of ETL and design experience in a team environment
  • Strong PL/SQL and proficient C# coding with an emphasis on data acquisition, integration and transformation
    • Experience with web scraping and pdf parsing would be an asset
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience of the full software development lifecycle
  • Knowledge of Canadian Oil and Gas data
    • Experience working with the PPDM data model would be an asset
  • Superior time management, inter-personal skills and a desire to collaborate
  • The ability to work under pressure to resolve live issues with systems in production
  • Passion to learn new technologies and new data

Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary in Computer Science and/or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of commercial experience

  • Oracle and/or SQL Server database administration experience
  • Working experience with GIS and spatial data
Certifications
  • PPDM CPDA
  • Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional
  • Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate Certification
  • Microsoft Technology Association (MTA): Database Fundamentals SQL Certification
  • SQL Server DBA Certification
