Our Team

Our corporate office, located in downtown Toronto serves as the headquarters for the global Base Metals business, providing support to all our Base Metals operations.

The Base Metals Operational Excellence team provides both technical and governance guidance for all Vale Base Metals groups, leading efforts in Continuous Improvement and problem-solving enablement. Working cross-functionally with various stakeholders and groups to design, deploy, measure, and improve operational processes that drive value.

In efforts to stabilize/optimize operational processes both statistical analysis and strategic improvement frameworks are of the team.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking 2 Data Analyst Co-op Students to join our Base Metals Operational Excellence in Toronto, ON. Based in Toronto with some expectation for domestic travel. Hybrid remote/office arrangement.

This is a fixed term position for a duration of 12 months beginning May 2024.

The successful candidates will undertake the duties required could include but not limited to:

Establishing digital frameworks, data management system.

Support/lead data-based projects of varying complexity.

Support facilitation across x-functional groups, team engagement events.

Must be exceptional in computer applications (Microsoft, SharePoint, PowerBI, etc.).

Demonstrate knowledge in Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen),

Fluent in Portuguese would be a tremendous asset.

About You

Education:

Completed second year or third year and will be enrolled in an Engineering program, preferred -

Computer/math science

Process or chemical

Mining/processing

Experience:

Experience in an industrial environment would be considered an asset.

Skills:

Follow Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.

Maintain a high level of professional conduct.

Must be obsessed with safety and risk.

Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.

Support the implementation of the Continuous Improvement Program (philosophy, model, soft and hard skills) and drive business results with data-based insights gained from analyzing company data.

Adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for performance and process optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action.

The work involves using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building, and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations.

Ability to work with stakeholders to improve business outcomes while working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams.
