Job Description

Under the direction of the Paraprofessional Supervisor, Learning Support Services, the CYW coach is primarily responsible for enhancing the skills and abilities of the Paraprofessional staff group to effectively support student and system needs through active coaching and skill demonstration to enhance the service delivery to our highest needs students. This role is designed to support the Paraprofessionals in their delivery of services to students through on-the-job coaching and job assistance as well as to assist with the onboarding of new and trainee EAs into their employment with the WRDSB.

Leadership Duties:



To act as a liaison between Learning Support Services (Special Education), School Administrators and the Paraprofessionals Through the Paraprofessional Supervisor, collaborate, monitor and assist in the growth, development, and training of all Paraprofessionals Consistent and reliable communication with the System Administrator of Special Education and/or the Superintendent of Special Education Support the High Needs Verification Process Support staff transitions to new assignments/roles Report and respond as required to Incident reports

Training:



To assist in the development of training activities including general orientation To initiate and support training initiatives To assist in the coordination of professional development activities for all Educational Assistants and CYWs. To assist in the ongoing maintenance and updating of employee records pertaining to BMS and other training programs as required. To assist in the ongoing delivery of BMS Training Delivery








Work Conditions:



Environment: Travel, office environment, school environment Demands: Work requires independent action in problem solving; handling inquiries and complaints; initiates and recommends procedures; keyboarding; interpersonal conflicts; strict confidentiality adherence Contacts: Board personnel; students Equipment: General office equipment. Hours: 35 hours weekly, non standard work day, schedule to be created with the immediate Supervisor





Compensation Information:



Temporary responsibility allowance of $5,000 CAD per school year, prorated for the time actually worked in the pilot Trainer position during the school year. For clarity, payment for the responsibility allowance shall only be made for time worked in said role based on completed months of service. This shall be in addition to the normal rate of pay for their permanent position in core day.





Mandatory Educational Qualifications, Experience and Key Assets:



Minimum Educational Requirements:




Minimum two (2) year college diploma or equivalent as determined by the Board, in a child related field

Minimum Experience:



Minimum five years related experience in Special Education working with students with complex needs as a Child and Youth Worker

Additional Requirements:

Proficient and fluent with student development and with implementation of a Safety plan -Understanding of the development and implementation of a variety of student specific plans -Planning events and engaging with large audiences Current recent and satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training Proficient with Lift/Transfer guidelines and best practises Proficient with toileting/personal care planning and best practises Proficient in understanding and use of evidence based practices to support students with a range of learning needs and exceptionalities A strong understanding of Applied Behaviour Analysis Exceptional interpersonal skills Demonstrated commitment and understanding of the Board's North Star principles Ability to coach, model, support and positively reinforce Paraprofessionals Roles and Responsibilities in an effective manner Excellent conflict resolution skills Demonstrated proficiency with being able to work effectively and efficiently with students with complex needs Ready, able, and willing to support the assessment of training needs and develop training and learning opportunities Ready, able, and willing to immediately bring forward issues that adversely affect student safety and well being to their immediate supervisor for appropriate action Ready, able, and willing to document areas of system professional development needs and/or developmental areas to assist for the growth and development of employees Through onboarding practices, assist new employees being integrated into the WRDSB school system to enable them to support student and system needs Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills
