Position Summary:



The Customs and Compliance Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing all customs, import/export, and regulatory compliance activities for shipments between Canada and the United States. This role ensures that all cross-border movements comply with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and other applicable government regulations, while maintaining operational efficiency and minimizing customs-related risks and costs.

Position Responsibilities:



Oversee daily cross-border import/export operations between Canada and the U.S., ensuring full compliance with CBSA, CBP, and all regulatory agencies. Manage and lead the customs operations team, providing training, guidance, and performance oversight. Ensure accurate and timely customs clearance by coordinating with brokers, carriers, and government officials. Maintain in-depth knowledge of customs programs (CARM, ACE, ACI eManifest, CSA/FAST, C-TPAT, PIP) and apply best practices. Develop, implement, and enforce internal trade compliance policies and standard operating procedures. Monitor and interpret changes in customs regulations, tariffs, and trade policies to ensure continued compliance. Review and validate cross-border documentation to ensure accuracy and audit readiness. Prepare compliance reports and operational metrics to identify risks and improvement opportunities. Lead internal audits, risk assessments, and corrective actions to mitigate compliance gaps. Drive process optimization and digital transformation initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce border delays.

Position Qualifications:



Minimum 5+ years in customs, compliance, or logistics management (cross-border Canada-U.S. operations). Minimum 5+ years in a leadership capacity and managerial skills. In-depth knowledge of CBSA, CBP, CUSMA/USMCA, and relevant trade compliance frameworks. Experience managing relationships with customs agents, customs brokers, and regulatory agencies Certification in customs or trade compliance (e.g., CCS, CTCS, P.Log, CCLP) is an asset. Strong understanding of import/export regulations and documentation. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills. Proficiency in customs management software and MS Office Suite. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment.
