is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of a facility's interior and exterior spaces. This role involves performing custodial tasks, such as cleaning and sanitizing various areas. The custodian/facility maintenance worker will be responsible for doing any carpentry duties around the site, supporting production with pallet staging, cardboard staging, and snow removal.
You will work in coordination with the Technical Service Manager, Maintenance Coordinator, and in conjunction with the Quality Control and Food Safety Managers.
The duties and responsibilities of
CUSTODIAN/FACILITY MAINTENANCE TECHNICAN
will be as follows:
1. Be familiar with and have regard for HACCP, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), Food Safety, Food Security, Organic Certification, Standard Operating Procedures and all other applicable regulatory and company programs and policies.
2. Clean and sanitize restrooms, common areas, offices, and other designated spaces daily.
3. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and/or scrub floors as needed to maintain cleanliness.
4. Empty trash bins and replace liners in accordance with established schedules.
5. Clean windows, glass doors, and other transparent surfaces.
6. Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request restocking as needed.
7. Operate and maintain ground equipment, such as snowblowers, leaf blowers, fueling reefer trucks, propane forklift, snowplows, balers.
8. Clear any snow from doorways and steps.
9. Identify and report safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, and structural issues to appropriate supervisors.
10. Follow safety protocols and use protective equipment when handling cleaning chemicals or operating machinery.
11. Communicate regularly with Technical Service Manager and Maintenance Coordinator regarding maintenance needs, repairs, and supplies.
12. Cut slip sheets for afternoon and evening production.
13. Stage pallets for production for the afternoon and evening production shifts.
14. Make and store cardboard and plastic bales.
15. Assist with any moving equipment or pallets with the outdoor propane forklift.
16. Perform any carpentry duties required around the site to local building codes and regulations. (Build walls, building of offices, drywall repair, painting, caulking, door seals, mounting of PPE dispensers, floor repairs)
17. Other duties may be assigned to the Employee as required.
Ideal Candidate:
Previous experience in custodial or grounds maintenance work is required.
Previous experience in carpentry trade is required.
Knowledge of local building codes.
Knowledge of power tools.
Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, equipment usage, and basic horticulture practices.
Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, standing, and operating equipment.
Attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibility for maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Effective communication skills for coordinating tasks with team members and managers.
Basic understanding of safety protocols and the ability to follow guidelines for chemical usage and equipment operation.
Must be able to work in hot and cold temperatures.
