JOB PURPOSE:
The Center of Hope Program Custodian provides upkeep and maintains the cleanliness of the Centre of Hope in compliance with applicable standards. The incumbent will also provide access to the facilities as required, assist with security during the hot lunch program, and assist the Food Services Coordinator with Food Service prep and pickups.
ROLES:
Kitchen HelperAssists in preparing meals, including dietary meals, as directed by Food Services Coordinator Follows work practices to ensure the efficient delivery of food services May be required to pick up food donations Follows policy on the use of donated foods May place order for, or pick up food supplies May organize the work of food services in the absence of the Food Services Coordinator May deliver food to Evergreen Shelter Cleans the kitchen and kitchen equipment Keeps simple records and completes incident reports as necessary Ensure that proper safety precautions and hygiene standards are followed including Universal Precautions and Food Safe Assists in ensuring the kitchen, food storage, and fridge/freezer are always kept clean and organized. Assists in ensuring high standards of sanitation and cleanliness are maintained throughout the kitchen, dining room and food storage areas including removing kitchen & dining room waste. Demonstrate a high standard of personal hygiene. Performs other position related duties as required.

JanitorialProvides list of supplies for approval by Supervisor for ordering in a timely manner before the supplies run out. Receives supplies and distributes same to the appropriate locations. Ensures the general upkeep of the facilities such as cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting and vacuuming. Collects and disposes of garbage and recycling to the appropriate places and ensures garbage and recycling containers are kept clean Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required. Special event setup and take down of tables, chairs & other furniture Clean and sanitize tables and chairs at Centre of Hope daily. Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, Restocks washroom supplies and kitchen(s) paper towel and garbage bag supplies Refills soap and hand sanitizer dispensers in all areas Spot washes accessible walls Maintains a clean and orderly supply and tool storage area in each facility. Monthly cleans windows inside and out or as needed Cleans and sanitizes Centre of Hope shower room placing any towels in for laundering Wash down cupboard doors, cooler and freezer surfaces Wipe down hood of stove Ensure clothing and donations are neat and tidy on-stage area and office common areas, discarding items not suitable for donation in consultation with other staff

SecurityChecks doors and windows of the facilities to ensure building and resident security; provides access to the facilities and secures the facilities as needed. Assists at the Centre of Hope Monday to Friday from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm providing extra security in the dining area while the building is open for the hot lunch program. Reports Safety Concerns and repair issues to Supervisor Consistently demonstrates empathy and concern for guests/families Assists in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Family Services Area and /or Meal center Receives (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations or purchased products following standard procedures May be responsible for ensuring safe handling of hazardous materials Arranges for discarding of items that are not usable in accordance with policy May direct work of volunteers assisting in Meal center & Family Services Area May assist with some programming

PUBLIC RELATIONS:Provides visibility for The Salvation Army by maintaining positive relations within the community

HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL:Ensure that proper safety precautions and hygiene standards are followed including Universal Precautions. Ensures high standards of sanitation and cleanliness are maintained throughout the kitchen, foodbank, dining room and food storage areas including removing kitchen & dining room waste. Demonstrate a high standard of personal hygiene. May be required to ensure that the building is secure and that safety standards are met or exceeded at all times. Participate in monthly workplace inspections. Ocean Crest has had long-standing policies of providing a safe and healthful environment and conserving energy and natural resources. Every employee is expected to follow this policy and to report any environmental, health or safety concern or suggestion for improving our environmental impact to their manager

PERSONNEL:
Completes the required time sheet accurately recording hours worked including sick days and holidays, totals the hours, signs and gives the time sheet to the Supervisor at the completion of each 2 week pay period.
MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:
Completion of High School, Grade 12 or equivalent.
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:The successful applicant will hold/have: First Aid Certification Food Safe Level 1 Fluent spoken and written English Valid Driver's license and clean driver's abstract Criminal Record Check Excellent team and interpersonal skills Creative self-starter, a motivator and open to innovation Able to handle physical demands, which include frequent lifting of tables, chairs, boxes and other heavy items. Immunization for Hepatitis B, and vaccination against Tuberculosis

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:
The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:
One year of prior related experience
PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:
The performance of the job requires operating equipment and tools, bending/twisting/lifting, and fine motor skills (when working with small pieces of equipment in confined areas).
The incumbent is required to lift more than 40 pounds
CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:
The performance of the job requires frequent use of fine motor skills, high to moderate attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment, and moderate attention when reading equipment manuals (for safe operating instructions)
RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES:
The incumbent will be involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. They may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget
RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES:
The incumbent is responsible for own time and effort. They may demonstrate work methods to new employees, volunteers and/or students. They may be responsible for directing & checking results of guests/volunteers in the dining area of the Centre of Hope.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The incumbent's work environment is typically in the office, Center of Hope and Evergreen Shelter.
The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:Angry and abusive people Verbal abuse Dirt/Dust/Temperature variations Noisy Unpleasant odors Handling garbage Exposure to toxic chemicals

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:
The incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury, or illnesses due to:Physical attacks by others Exposure to infectious diseases Exposure to pests and vermin Emergency Response situations (fire, bomb threat, etc.) Other potentially dangerous situations Exposure to companion animals and their effects

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $19.37 to $19.67 with a maximum of $19.97.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
