Job Summary
The mission of Facilities Management is to provide the Dalhousie community with an inviting, safe and sustainable environment which supports and enhances an inspiring experience in learning, living, working and research. Reporting to the Custodial Services Manager, the Custodial Supervisor is responsible for the planning, organizing, coordinating and managing a staff of up to 50, ensuring the proper care and cleaning of 3.6 million square feet of cleanable space in 100+ buildings.
Key Responsibilities
Determine the appropriate mix of staff, cleaning chemicals, products and equipment that will allow for an attractive, effective, maintenance efficient and sustainable service.
Consistent daily delivery of the established Custodial Services work program for assigned buildings including planning, scheduling, and assigning cleaning activities to custodial personnel on designated shifts.
Maintain familiarity with contemporary cleaning methods, equipment applications and general cleaning standards to allow for the provision of consistent service.
Manage operating and project related budgets utilizing FAMIS and financial status reports generated from FAMIS and the general ledger to ensure effective cost controls.
Train and review the performance of staff, manage hours of work (including absences), coordinate custodial activities with other maintenance and operational functions, and prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to the assigned functions.
Evaluate work flow processes for safety and efficiency and make appropriate adjustments to achieve ongoing improvements.

Please note that this position is required to work on
weekends
. Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Saturday & Sunday:
6:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Monday:
7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Required Qualifications
Undergraduate degree, plus considerable supervisory experience in a large institutional setting (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
Proven ability in the management of a large unionized staff.
Good oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and proficient microcomputer skills (word processing, spreadsheet)
Assets
Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment an asset.
